Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
Does anyone have any experience of hiring a Satnav from ebay? I'm off to the states in 6 weeks and have found sellers on Ebay offering SATNAVS at rental costs much cheaper than with carhire companies. Nearly all of the sellers have 100% positive feedback. Has anyone tried this before?
All suggestions greatly appreciated

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

what sort of price? Do you have a sat nav with UK maps? Maybe getting the US maps for it would make more sense - you could sell the US maps on ebay when you get back.
I haven't tried renting one from ebay, but to me, any cost of renting one should be considered against the cost of buying one (or buying the US maps)...renting one you get use while you're away and that's it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I can get it for about 30 quid. That will include it being posted to me, having it for a couple of days, then flying for 14 nights then having a couple of days to send it back. All the traders on ebay ( and off, altho I expect some of them are the same people) look much of a muchness to me.
I dont have a sat nav. the cheapest chip I have found is 65.00. the cheapest 2nd hand sat nav with USa maps installed seem to go for about 90 odd on ebay. the cheapest new one I can find it 185.00 new. Theres no way we can afford to buy a new one, although we did consider it and then sell it after but we dont have the cash flow to be without 200.00 until it is sold on. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Walmart USA are selling tom tom one with pre loaded USA & Canada maps on in store for $72.00 + Tax around 8% +/- less than £50 !
All you need is to find way to nearest Walmart to Airport or find out and call store before you go make sure they have one.
Use it then bring it home and sell it on e bay ! Result"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

you can actually order online with walmart.com and have the item shipped to the store of your choosing for collection - and you'll know what date it will be available for you to collect...I don't think you can enter a credit card billing address outside of the US, but you can pay with PayPal.
Worth considering at least...Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
thats a brilliant idea so thanks for that.
I think we will just do that. there is a walmart just around the corner from the airport, Im sure we will find it ! If I can order it to store then that sorts out a major problem. I can see one for 60 USD on there now, so I think we shall keep an eye on the prices ? Do they change much ? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? It's much more fun to drive in the USA without a Satnav ! I've driven there loads of times and always found where i wanted to be without one, i think their road systems are quite user friendly. Mind you i don't use one here either, can't stand them.0

I think we will need one, quite a complex journey we are doing! We also dont drive often in the UK as we dont have cars, so want it to be as relaxing as possible! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most?
