OK,what is your tyre pressure in 'Bars'? Vent

Just a small observation/vent.

Went to Asda and wanted to inflate car tyres.Duly put 20p in machine and then i was required to enter my cars tyre pressure in Bars:eek:.

Now i work in old money i.e pounds/per sq inch so i quickly scrambled for my car handbook and by the time i found the pressure in 'Bars' as opposed to lbs/sq in the time had run out!

Enquired at kiosk and the girls hadnt got a clue what i wsa talking about but kindly gave me a free token for the air machine.

Forewarned is forearmed.:)

The tyre pressure for my car is on a sticker in the door frame, could you not do something similar eg make a note of note and keep it in th handbook

1 bar is about 15 PSI - you don't need a degree in Maths to come up with a pretty close approximation in bar. Most cars are around 25 to 30 PSI -
    say 1.7 to 2 bar.
The machine is probably only about 20% accurate anyway !!

The machines usually have a button to switch between bars and lbs readout. Annoying if you've only one 20p though!

Its usually in bar(14.7 psi) on a sticker on the b pillar.I usually use the local sainsburys one as its free and it is pretty much spot on with the digital pressure gauge I have, but then they could both be wrong.

Worse if you only have four shillings or two florins.
  • Most of these air pressure things have a guide for you to look up the pressure of the tyre. Just find your car on the list. Alternatively you can find it on the passenger side door frame as someone else said.

And most importantly, set the pressure before you stick your 20p in. I swear you get way less time out of them than you used to.

And they used to be free.

And you used to be able to get a slap-up dinner, night at the pictures, world cruise, new ferrari, taxi home and still have change out of fourpence.

Of course, we had it tough...

I may be wrong (as per normal) but I seem to recall reading somewhere that if they charge then the reading has to be accurate to within +/- 5%, if they are free then the reading is only a guide (and usually on one of those analogue guage things rather than digital)

and NiallB, that scenario also used to be the start of a fantastic date, now days its a case of pick one and thats the whole date
