Nobody care to ask after the welfare of the washing machine??
can't be too nice having a chunk of plastic rattling around inside you for an hour and a half.

You mobile phone geeks are so cold hearted.

Yes they will replace anything for £140, the problem in some cases being that being that if your repair will cost less than £140 then they STILL charge £140 (ie a new screen can be picked up on ebay for £7) . What is most likely is that you will send them a handset, and then they ship you out a refurb handset straight away, and then repair your old handset and eventually pass that off to someone else as a refurb.

What you should note is that phones have special sensors in them which change colour when exposed to water (One inside, and one in the headphone jack port) and apple will refuse warranty repairs if these sensory have changed colour. The water damage will be apparent if you try and dry and claim fault.

Re the advice on rice, in a SEALED BAG then rice should absorb the moisture if put somewhere warm, preferably for at least a week. Most of the advice i have read on this has stated that, If you try and switch the handset on before having it thoroughly dry, then this does permanent damage to the interior.

    Phone's probably DEAD!

Since the iPhones battery is fixed inside the device, and it went through at least a full cycle, the water has probably caused the battery to short circuit, frying the phone!

chalk it up to experience and check your household insurance...

I had a similar problem last year with my iphone - ie it got water damaged. I tried drying it out, but it didn't work. Whenever I docked it, the logo came on and nothing else. I tunes tried to restore it, but failed all the time. My advice is:

try dry. Then try restore in itunes. If it fails you can probably sell it on ebay - but be honest by stating it is sold as not working and has water damaged. Check ebay for going rate for your version of the phone, you'll be surprised at what they sell for - even water damaged ones.

I took mine to the Genius bar and they checked the sensors on my phone to see if they had turned pink due to water damage (which I knew they had). BTW the sensors are inside the docking/charging connector and the headphone jack. there are also some hidden on the circuit board.

They offered me a brand new phone (same version as I had) for a 130 pound fee. I took it. It only comes with a 90 day guarantee but mines been good for over 12 months.

    Hope this helps

Mine went swimming in a cup of tea a few week ago. Tried everything to dry it out, including rice, but nothing works. I claimed on the house insurance and went to Apple to get an engineers report to how much it would cost to replair, £139, or replace, £397 as they requested. Apple said that water damaged iphones are repairable and could only quote for £139. The only time it would be replaceable was if it had been smashed to pieces. I didnt bother with the insurance claim in the end, just paid up and got a brand new replacement.
