I think nights are great as long as they suit you and your body is used to them. I don't sleep well in the day so I am not a fan but luckily haven't worked a single one since I qualified a year ago.
I've done nights since I had more than one child. When I only had DS 1 I worked in day surgery so could tell the nursery well in advance when I would be working, and no weekends/bank holidays so childcare was fairly straight forward. (We've got no family BTW so all childcare has to be paid for). With the arrival of DS2 I moved to ITU nights, luckily it was in the same directorate, I'd done ITU for 5 years pre-children and management liked me so they engineered a change without me having to apply for the job. We moved 200 miles when DS3 was 8 weeks old (but that's another story for another day) and I did agency stuff on nights for a couple of years when I was ready to go back to work. Then I got the job I've got now which is in a hospice. Massive change from surgery/ITU but I love it. Have been there 6 years, permenent nights and it's on the doorstep (can walk if necessary). Working below my grade really, but I love my job, my colleagues are great, it fits round the boys, DH and I pass on the doorstep at 08.15 when I get back, and it's very near. It ticks enough boxes for me and far more than many people I'm sure.
It's amazing how many nurses do work nights cos of childcare.
I never really get enough sleep but I suppose I've got used to it. Am only 40 but started my training aged 18 so have been nursing since 1989 .
The NHS has had me in it's clutches since I was just a bairn!!:D0 -
There's a lot to be said for enjoying your job. I wish I enjoyed mine.0

Getting ready for girlie weekend away. Has been booked for ages. Got really good prices for train tickets and hotel (cos I was in charge of those!):D.
Will have to be strong round the shops though cos my companions dooooooo like to shop .
My ebay stuff is looking OK. Bids on most of it. Will finish before I get back so hope it'll be a nice surprise.
Half way through the month and bank balance looking good for a healthy OP
Kitchen progressing steadily. Am glad I'm going away to be away from it all!!
Be good while I'm away

Hi Guys,
Has a lovely weekend away. Was in Glasgow, where I used to live. Caught up with friends there and had a chilled time as I was DH & DSs free
Did spend a little but was on things I will actually use, rather than impulse 'lovely but not that useful' purchases (at least that's my justification and I'm sticking to it). Did me the power of good. We all need to let our hair down occasionally. I also really enjoyed 'helping' my friends do lots of shopping too
Have come back to find my ebay things have sold for £81 :T. A few things didn't sell but I was pleasantly surprised by how much a couple of things did sell for, so a good result all round.
Kitchen progressing steadily. Am amazed every day at how talented our joiner is as he's making such a good job of it. Just can't wait for it to be finished

Glad you had a nice time. it's great to escape every now and again0

Back on nights
. Am far more tired than usual, but I think this is the result of me flinging myself into my weekend away with gusto
. But is was fun fun fun at time
Have got to detour via the post office to post my ebay sales on the way to pick DSs up from school. This is the bit I hate about ebay TBH, the packaging, selling and anxious wait to see if they like your offerings
I did buy a couple of heavily reduced things on my weekend away to keep as Christmas presents for my sister and a friend. Have had to write in my diary on December's 1st page what and where they are, otherwise by then the existence of them will have been totally wiped from my memory!!
Not buying much food at the moment as nowhere to store it (due to kitchen upheaval) and also mountains of dinner stuff pre-cooked in freezer in anticipation. Feel there will have to be a mammoth food shop when the kitchen is finished though, it will be like Old Mother Hubbard's!0 -
Gosh, you are good with keeping a list of what you've bought for xmas. I always mean to do this but somehow it never happens!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Phase 1 - Emergency Fund - Complete :j

Makes a nice change to have a reliable and good tradesman, doesn't it.

I'm doing the same at the moment and I'd forgotten just quite how much it stresses me! It's worth it though - I made £50ish from stuff that was lying about the house and was never going to be used.0 -

I'm aware that this makes me sound scarily organised. However, the truth is that if I don't write it down, I will find said item the following summer having erased it from my memory the moment I put it somewhere safe :rotfl:0
