all I know is that you don't have to wind it up and it has a battery
    Might it be steam powered?
  • My Raymond Weil is around 10 years old and no problems. I wear it everyday, have had the battery changed every few years. I personally would be contacting Dior. I think that 4 years for a watch costing £350 is a joke. Sorry I wouldn't be paying £210 for a repair, I would be looking at buying a new watch regardless of the sentimental value.
On another note, my Nana's watch is over 70 years old, just had it serviced and cleaned at a watchsmith £35 and it's still going strong and keeping perfect time!!
:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:
  • I bought the current Freda one for her 40th birthday 4 years back, a nice pearl faced one at £75 from Hinds.

Still immaculate and perfect like Freda.

My Sekonda cost OH about £25, eight years ago. It's been dropped, put through the washing machine, worn in the shower several times and it's still going. Apart from a new battery every 18 months or so (£3, from a local market stall) and several new straps, it's looking (and working) as good as ever.

OP should definitely try an independant watch repairer, the "Dior" label is more about aethesics than quality, ultimately, a watch either tells the time or it doesn't. £200+ for a repair is not justifiable, I daresay there's nothing particularly special about the watch mechanism, no matter how pretty it is!

I have a Brietling , my service bills are high , one over the £300 mark , but the watch is still going after wearing it every day for over 35 years........... the joys of a proper mechanical watch.
  • When I worked abroad, the free watch on 200 fags used to fail before all the fags were smoked.

How often does it need servicing?

Every three years ( if I remember )

I justify the cost , it was an 18th birthday present , gosh new calculation , change 35 years to 40 !
And its the only thing of value I wear every day.

These days you can't guarantee that expensive designer watches will be of good quality. Sometimes you're just paying for the brand name, not the actual product. I think they could justify the high prices by saying who the watch is made by, but part of me feels that if they did that, they wouldn't be able to get away with charging what they do !
I wear a Rolex every single day, have done since i bought it 6 years ago, my treat to myself for being married to a t*at for over 20 years (after i kicked him out) it was over £2000 but i'm worth it !!
