Sorry to resurrect an old post.

It's a while now since I did this and everything is going swimmingly. Dumped Virgin and got a cheap freeview+ set so I'm not having to rely on Virgin's crap catchup service to watch any programs I may miss.

the phone is great. Acts as my ipod, broadband, satnav and means I got rid of the landline as well.

Overall, it's working out much cheaper than paying for all the different services seperately, even including the insurance for the phone. Probably not a setup for everyone, but for me it's worked great and I'd recommend it.

I'm glad you did. I too was pondering getting a Galaxy Ace (which is cheap on 3's all-you-can-eat plan as it can't use Adobe Flash on it's Android 2.2.1 OS) and using it mainly just for tethering. You said the tethering speed in the instore demo was just a fraction of the phone's standalone broadband speed, so is this now not the case?
