Xbox Live Debit Card Withdrawals

Comments

  • okay this happened to us, we have no idea how it happened and Microsoft would not tell us what happened behind the scenes.

We had around £600-£700 withdrawn from our account by XBOX live on game purchases and other in game content , which was not present on my sons XBOX.

We were also on holiday with no access to the XBOX when these transactions happened , plus his gamertag was changed.

Neither of us can work out how it was done, he swears blind that he has never disclosed the password etc.

Microsoft were amazing and quickly without question returned every penny.

I can't comment on your situation OP, but just wanted to reassure you that if MS suspect fraud they are excellent (at least in my case).

can card purchases from xbox live not be blocked using parental controls?
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

They can if the child when setting up the account put the correct D.O.B in ;)

If they make themselves over 16+ (If I remember) it does not prompt that you need to set-up the adult account at the same time which allows you to block this if you desire.

  • I too am an xbox live user an i don't think i'd be able to rack up 1500 quids worth of stuff if i tried.

I used to pay by credit card on a monthly basis for xbox live, not long ago i removed my card from their system its just a case of phoning up. I'd get your son to change his xbox live login password to prevent further "abuse" of the account if it really has nothing to do with him.

Might be worth having a browse of his hard drive to see if there is anything that stands out. If you boot up the xbox and go to my xbox> scroll to the right to system settings>memory>harddrive> it'll indicate how much memory is used on music, videos, pictures, themes, and stuff like that.

Chances of getting any money back can not be sure so the money may be in Microsoft's pocket for good reasons.

And I would have imagined that Visa could have been more supportive, even if your bank cant. I know its not the same as credit cards, but there is the chargeback method which your bank can attempt.

Hope it works out for you.

There isn't a Visa chargeback right for this scenario, for the card issuer to deal with it, it would have to be confirmed as fraud by the OP once he has spoken to MS or checked the download record on his sons XBox to see if it shows there. Even once confirmed as fraud, if MS come back with info showing the son did download the stuff the OP would be redebited.

You can remove the Card Details yourself as long as you have the Username & Password by going to:

    https://live.xbox.com/en-GB/Flows/EditCreditCard/SelectPaymentInstrument.aspx

    And select "Remove"

If I remember, you do have to call them if you have an active Gold sub which you no longer wan't and they cancel this over the phone for you.

Is that link correct? My cousin is trying to remove his details but it doesn't load the page above. It starts to but the reloads the regular xbox.com homepage instead? thanks

edit: manage to get it to work by googling it first?! BUT, they won't let you remove card details. Very naughty if you ask me. Surely you should be allowed to remove card details whenever you want.

I dont know much about the x-box so cant comment. but i do know my son also 13 asked me to buy some dlc codes for one of his games on ps3, costing 10 pounds ish. so i put my card details onto his ps3 with his user name etc. downloaded dlc pack no prob, told him to give me his password afterwords, deleted card details. which i would not have known if i was not so switched on with these things. point is. he could have and prob would have downloaded every single dlc pack he could to every game hes got. he said to me loads of his class mates have there parents card details on there ps3 and use it then cry wasn't me. they are not so daft they talk at school how they can hack games etc. wake up people. basically there clever on doing tech things than you think. there not daft at thirteen they know what they are doing. bet your going to say not my kid. hmmm
  • since my experience I have registered a pre-paid card to my sons account and transfer funds onto this for him to use.

also if you want to get to the bottom of this , try checking your online billing account associated with the live id , you can do this through live services.

Also phone Microsoft and say that you want a list of each purchase when the time and date of the purchase was and if possible the ip address of where the purchase was transacted.

You can then compare the IP address against that of your router (if your wireless) and if you get a match you can safely say that all the purchase came from your house. if there are different IP addresses this is a different story.

I suspect that MS already have done this which is why they are confident no fraud has been committed.

As another poster has suggested have a look at the content on your sons XBOX if it is all purchased and on the console itself then it was him or somebody else with access to the box.

Sorry, for some reason the link as you says takes you back to the XBox home page.

You can remove the Card Details also (This does work lol) by going to:
