  • I highly recommend Ribena wine - but use strawberry Ribena it makes the most beautiful fruity rose wine. I've stopped using the kits as I find you get much better results using fruit, veg, fruit juice and even cordial!

Try googling WOW - worzels orange wine, its a great easy white wine made from cartons juice and once you've made it you can then experiment. :D
  • Thanks for all of your replies! I think the best way to do it is just to DO IT! And if it goes wrong, so what, i tried! I think that the main thing i worry about is that im going to actually drink it so i what it to...well...sort of right!
    xx
  • get yourself a good recipe book - i can highly recommend cjj berry - first steps in winemaking (isbn 978-1-85486-139-9)

full of country wine recipes - and good practical advice ;)
saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year
  • by the way, where do you buy wine making yeast from?!

The CJJ berry book is transcribed on here

    Save yourself some £.

wine yeast - Wilko or a local brew shop.....
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

i have a local wine buff - who sells stuff out of his garage - and as he is just up the road from me - it's quite handy (but not much use to you)

wilkos sell basic winemaking stuff (i think they are the only high street store that stocks homebrew kit nowadays)

  • I get my stuff from Wilkos or order online - the wilko stuff is great fro getting started as its quite cheap :D I've currently got a gallon of wow clearing and my twist on wow clearing that I made with 2 ltrs of red grape juice and a ltr of pomegranate juice. These are good as they don't need to age like a lot of homemade wine - I've got 2 gallons of blackberry wine aging from last autumn - I'm hoping it gonna be drinkable at christmas ;)

I can highly recommend Wilko's kit as that's all I've tried. For £15 ish, after buying the sugar too, it takes 7 days to make 25-30 bottles of wine and as a poster says earlier it is idiot proof. Enjoy whatever you decide.

  • If you ever see a copy of a book called Drink Your Own Garden I'd recommend the recipes, I've used loads of them. I think its out of print but might turn up in 2nd hand areas.
