Tesco Mobile Blackberry Charges

Hi
I'm rubbish with mobiles, clearly.

My daughter has a Blackberry Curve on Tesco £15/month with 5000 txts, 250 mins and 500MB. She has had it 2 days and her bill is showing up as £0.25 ('Charges Outside') outside her allowance. I want to nip this in the bud ASAP.

Can someone tell me A) what is this and B) how to switch it off? Many thanks in advance.

MMS (multimedia messaging service) on my Tesco bill was 25p and out with my contract, I shared an app with a friend.

As Edinburghglass in post #2 suggests it could be a MMS (picture message) whilst your daughter may not have sent one intentionally, some handsets if you recieve an MMS and reply to it with a text, the handset still treats it as an MMS
  • You need to find out what the charges are actually for. I've had Blackberry phones for nearly 4 years and have never gone over my data allowance despite been connected to the BIS 24/7/365. This includes using BBM, downloading Apps, emailing and occasional web browsing.

Blackberrys are not as data hungry as some other phones i.e. iPhone, HTC Desire, so 500mb should be plenty.

    HTH.

Brand new contracts are pro rata billed for like the first week or two, could be down to that?

    Thx for replies.

Reply from Tesco:- "I can confirm that the 25p bill that she has generated is for one multi media message that she has sent as these are not part of her minutes, text messages and data browsing allowances."

I asked her about it - do Facebook uploads count? She hasn't a clue what caused the charge? Thx.

Yes if its uploaded via sending the text instead of using the facebook app.

If it's an upload it should be counted as data.

On some phones (don't know about BB's) if you send a text longer than 128 characters it'll send it as a MMS rather than a SMS. Might be worth having a look at the message setting.
