Can i cancel my 24 month sim only from Orange within 30 days?
On the 10th of this month my contract changed to a sim only contract at £15 per month for 24 months, from a 24 month contract where i got the HTC Touch HD (the first one, not the second, it's old now :P).
I have just got off the phone to orange and was told that i only had 7 days in which to cancel it, when the guy asked me why i mentioned that i'm interested in the Groupon deal T-Mobile are doing for the Samsung Galaxy Tab - He passed me onto someone else but they said they werent able to match the offer, and that it would cost £110 to cancel my sim only contract with them.
If i really wanted to i could pay the £110, leave, pay £15 for the groupon deal, £15 to tmobile and then £15 a month for 2 years (a total of £500, vs the Tab on the deal Orange offered me which works out to £649 over 2 years).
As far as i was aware, any electrical items are covered by a 30 day cancellation guarantee etc, whereas Orange only do 7 days.... Does anyone know ANY way i could possibly get around this and get out of the contract?
I tried asking if i can move to a pay as you go but it'd still cost the £110 fee
Thanks for any help
(P.s Only 3 hours left on the groupon deal

They do 24 month sim only?
There is no right to return a product that is not faulty, and the contract is an air time (service) agreement so is separate to the phone anyway, the 7 days is for the distance selling regulations. So unfortunately you can't return it without penalty.
If it's the samsung tab you are talking about it's £299 on O2 so why not buy it then use the current sim? Worth looking in to0 -

Sorry it's a 12 month Sim only contract... Mixed that up lol :P
I wouldn't be returning anything, just cancelling the sim.
I would opt for the Tab from O2, But over 2 years that'd be £659, so for £10 less i could stick with Orange and have the tab, or for £159 less (over the two years) i could cancel orange and take the deal from Tmobile.
I've got a few hours left to decide whether i'm cancelling and paying the £110 left i suppose, unless anyone knows of a way around that, which is doubtful lol.0 -
1. No right to cancel after 7 days - sorry, but DSR is clear.
2. How often do you go to the cinema on Wednesdays? You can always get some benefit for your £110, as well as making calls, of course.0 -
Electrical items are not covered by a 30 day cancellation guarantee either, especially if bought in store.0

As this is contract I would have thought a 14 day cooling off period would apply but if you have open items etc I dont think this counts0

They don't.
I didn't even think they gave 7 days as it's a renewal not a new contract.0 -

They don't legally as it's not a new contract but many do as it's easier than having two policies and trying exaplin which applies.
DSR also is a chance to examine the item not a trial period, by using it you could be seen as voiding it. (Three are know for this but others may follow suit). The idea is you cn see its the right colour/shape/texture at home rather than a potentially misleading image. Not so needed for phones but it is for clothes.0
