    Thanks.
I understand the cost would be the same if the oil heater has the same rating but I read and have heard from friends that they are more efficient at actually heating the air? Hence they don't need to be on as much. Sounds silly but if it works I'm game!
I'll look into the owl device definitely.

They aren't any more effcient. Nice for background heat but slow to start. Once you turn them off they still give out heat for another hour or so so nice for the bedroom as you are going to sleep as it's best/cheapest to turn the heating right down to low overnight.

    Thanks, researching halogen heaters now.

Halogen's fantastic for an open plan flat they heat you directly and not the space but when you step out of the heat it'll be cold.

    Thanks.
Although my house is very small. Hence the annoyance at expensice heating in April!
    Then turn it down...

    Will do.
I think halogen heater's for the hour in the morning and an hour before I get home to put the fire on at night (in the winter) will be the best option.
    Thanks for all your replies
    Have a good evening

You don't put them on before you get home they are one of the most dangerous heaters for that. Get one that has 3 settings 400/800/1200 and turn it on only when you get home. They heat by radiation and don't heat space like a convector or oil filled rad does. If you get a oil filled rad and put it on the frost setting it won't be too cold when you do get home and it'll stop your pipes from freezing too.

Thanks, not a very good idea I admit.
The oil filled seems like the best and safest option.

They all have their pro's and con's. You'll need some instant heat as well so a halogen or convector will be needed. They are cheap to buy so don't think you are wasting money.

Because I thought that the wall mounted electric heaters don't heat a space as efficiently as oil filled radiators or halogen heaters, therefore wasting more energy.

As pointed out, all electric heaters are 100% efficient.
