plus if you continue to save the 270 per month into a savings account with an as-good-as-u-can-find rate, you will be earning interest on your savings as well as saving the interest on the debt.
perhaps you could work out how much you think you will save/make doing this between now and 2013 and show it to your gf:D0 -
Totally agree with everyone, pay it towards your debt. By the end of the year you will be debt free, and will feel so much better for it. Then you can save for a weddingDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Yeah pretty standard, get the debt out the way as quickly as possible, and just tell the lady that the sooner you're paid off the quicker you can start saving for the dream wedding she's always wanted.
Either that or fly to Vegas on the 5K and get married by a midget Elvis....actually, forget my first comment, this sounds a lot more fun.New Years resolutions...don't get my signature removed and set up an A-Team style MSE crack survival team. P.S Apparently mrb1 and David 32 hate me. This makes me sad

She is talking about marriage...are you even engaged? Normally it is tradition for the Brides parents to pay for the wedding, so she should be saving up for that aswell if she wants to get wed.
Get the debts cleared. The £5k + £600 may be enough. ask about an early settlement figure, its normally -20%. so from £7K that would be £5600. unsure early settlements are negotiable if you have not defaulted though, but worth asking.
Going into marriage with debt can cause problems. If she can't see that then show her this forum of all the people who agree that Paying the debt is the best solution and should be the only solution.0 -
You may consider keeping back a few hundred quid as 'rainy day' money - hide it well away, but it means any unexpected bills etc are not going to cause trouble :-)0

"Neither of us can afford a wedding".
Getting married costs something like £100 at the registry office.
What you mean to say is, neither of you can afford to chuck away money on a fancy day out.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0
