Is it the brokers who forget who owns the site?? Martin has encouraged brokers to post, and refer to them in his articles.
It appears that you have snipped my post and included parts out of context.

This forum is a talking shop and as such has no credence in the formation of financial decisions ,it is an indicator.

It is a talking shop, you are right however there are some who will base financial decisions on the content of such forums. Therefore it is vital that the information given is concise and specific, however it will never be conclusive advice.
I therefore believe that those who sell mortgages should have no more credibility than any other poster.

I have to dis-agree with this, if for no other reason, that there have been countless occasions where tchnical issues relating to mortgages and the mortgage process have been raised which could only have been answered by an individual qualified and experienced in the appropriate field.

I don't think it is possible Ken to generalise with such a sweeping statement however is certain cases you may be correct.

I personally would never base any financial decision upon advice given on this forum ,I might use it as a platform for further investigation, like I would use a reference book or an opinion from a friend or colleague, those who post have no proved credentials in my eyes.

Going back to the OP's original point, this is a discussion board and as such should be treated as if it was a chat in the pub with the locals. If I walked into our local tonight I might get 20 opinions on a subject, some will be similar some poles apart but all worthy of consideration.

It's OK to ask for advice but in the end you have to make up your own mind, that's the value of the boards.
I totally agree ,and that is also Martin's interpretation I am sure,we all feed upon information on this site, what worries me is that the vulnerable in their haste to reach a solution might act upon it. I like your analogy.

That's your opinion and I respect it as that but do not necessarily agree with it. What may be right for you may not be right for everyone.

However what I do agree with is that people should use information on forums merely for guidance or a launchpad for further investigation. They should be free however to decide what route they wish to take for themselves.

If the brokers on this site accepted that they are not speaking from a position, those who require their questions answered would not return feeling badly done to when they are given contra assistance .
I tend to refrain from discussing my profession with friends, family and acquittance's ,but if the occasion does arise,it is purely on an opinion basis,I certainly would not wish to defend my remarks ,unless I had received a fee.
This site is for pleasure, information is given in good faith in the majority of cases,no one should be brought to task, those who are have brought it upon themselves by mixing business with pleasure.

Kenshaz, the brokers on this site ARE speaking from a position - it is their expertise that they share willingly. You know the reasons why we disclose our occupation we have had that discussion and the thread was locked. I repeat again, the brokers on this site ARE SPEAKING FROM A POSITION, an advantaged position of having in depth knowledge, experience and skill of which someone who is not a broker could never match. I will not apologise for that. If it was a mechanic helping someone with car problems would you have a problem accepting that they know more? Also, I will not accept responsibility if someone is left feeling bad. If you go bck through the OP's posts you will see there was no valid reason for him feeling that way. Self inflicted.

As regards discussing your profession, that is a very individual thing. I'm proud of what I do for a living, and I don't mind who knows it - and I will defend my remarks whether I am paid for them or not. I thought you were all in favour of fee's free? what do you do for a living? why is it OK for you to receive a fee but not a broker?

Also, I have never seen anyone on here, professionals I mean, brought to task - what on earth are you talking about here this makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Again, I ask you, why the personal attacks on ME?

All I can do to respond to your post is quote the board guide.
