Wrongly charged for Amazon Digital Dwn

Check your bank statements carefully.
Having just checked my Halifax bank statement that arrived today I found that I had 15 tranactions for Amazon Digital Dwn over two days on 31/03/2011 and 01/04/2011.
I don't even have an Amazon account. I made very few tranactions using my card (in fact 4, two on line at Play and ticketmaster and two in person at Tescos in Suffolk)
The fraud Dept at Halifax are now taking this up and the local police will know tomorrow morning.

You know what the cops will ask you..
Is there anyone in your household, or anyone with access to your card details who could have used them to download MP3 music from Amazon?
You have used the card to make recent online purchases which could make things more difficult for you.
There may be the insinuation from the cops, or from your bank, that your card details were compromised through your own poor internet security.0 -

Absolutely nothing. They'll tell them to go to their bank with the problem.
The police are not interested in banking fraud on this level.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
If anyone (the bank, Amazon, police etc) was interested, it would be quite easy to find out where the files were being downloaded to (the IP address) and see if that matched with yours. But, for the amount of money involved, I doubt if anyone will be too bothered.0

You'll be refunded, the bank will claim this back from Amazon or simply write it off. The police wil do diddly squat, don't waste your time.0

There is a huge thread on here somewhere about card fraud in connection with Play possibly:

Sadly the muddled responsibility laws around card fraud usually means the victim just goes round and round in circles with the police/bank.0 -

There's no need to go round in circles with "police/bank". As others have said, the police will not be much help in this situation. The OP has done the correct thing in reporting the fraud to Halifax.
As others have said, Halifax will provide an interim refund to the OP (normally once a declaration is signed), initiate a chargeback via Visa, and unless anything untoward comes back from the chargeback, they will keep the refund. Again, as meer53 has stated if it's below a certain value it will most likely be written off.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
bank should help you and try and contact Amazon to see if they can prove you purchased it0

Update,. Bank refunded amount. Police too busy with Ipswich v Norwich match. Bank sent a letter with questions on to answer. cheers for all messages.0

Nope, quite easy to sort.
Contact bank and answer questions. The bank then send info to the retailer to confirm transactions. If the transaction is fraud, then the amount is reversed by the bank from the retailers account and retailer writes it off as a loss.0
