Thinking that I may take H2Bs name as my surname and make my maiden name a 2nd middle name instead, then our kids would end up with two middle names as we would give them my maiden name as their second middle name. I have yet to get H2B to agree to this though :)

I thought this would be a great idea for Catherine for about 10 seconds till I remembered that our surname is also a male first name, so that would sound very strange if she took it as a middle name! Really good idea though!

I am already double-barrelled and couldn't bear to give up either surname. I figured that going triple-barrelled was a bit too much so will just change to h2b's surname!

NearlyMrsMac - I am a teacher too and the kids are fine with a double-barrelled surname although I do teach secondary.

I've been pondering this as I don't want to change my name at all, but h2b really wants me to. I won't feel any less his wife for keeping my own name, and it's important to me for family and feminist reasons.
But I don't know if the double-barreled route will sound right either!

I've been thinking about this for months now, & still not sure what to do!!
My DD who is 15 years old & not H2B's child has my surname, she is adamant she wants to keep her surname.
My DS who is just 6 years old has a double barrelled name of my surname & H2B's surname. I want the same name as my children!
As much as I want to take just take H2B's surname, I'm thinking I shouold have the double-barrelled name same as DS!
H2B thinks this is unnecassary & I should just take his name (DS is always just called his surname, known as this at school, even though I correct them constantly!).
    Confusing! What to do! :undecided

  • We are double - barrelled and hubby took my surname and deed polled it with his surname before our wedding.

I'm the last of our surname so even though it's unusual I wanted to keep it going iykwim. Our DD has three forenames and our double barrelled surname but who uses them all everyday after all??!! She is just S C-P for every day.
