I will be, mainly for the reason my dad passed away and had no sons to carry on his name, it seems to be a very popular option these days, the only thing I worry about is that its a bit of a mouthful :D:rotfl:

No, it sounded like a recycling plant when I double barrelled it, lol. I will really miss my maiden name, I feel like I'm defecting from my family to his when I want to stop with mine, but I like the tradional idea of being mr & mrs and then having little ones all with the same family name.

Hi, yes i'm hoping to go double barrelled, i've just been looking into it over the past couple of days, looks like it has to be done by deed poll, do you much about it?

I did. The kids have just his surname though.

It was partly because I was the second Mrs and I didn't like the first and didn't fancy having anything in common with her. But mainly that I love my family and my family name, I simply didn't want to let it go.

The only downside is that I am the only person in the country and possibly the world with my surname. Which is great being unique but naff as I cannot hide!

I am divorcing now and considering changing my name again. Not sure what to though.
  • Yes I will be. I already have a double barrelled surname (I have my mums maiden name and my dad's surname). I'll be dropping the last part (my dads surname) to take H2B's name.
Both our kids have this double barrelled name so he's going to be the odd one out :D

Nearly two years ago we got a little house bunny. MrD took him to the vet to get him castrated. He booked him under Bunny Drink*. Lol I was devastated - I don't have the same surname as Bunny!! God knows what I'd be like if we had children!

So nope - I won't be keeping my name or having a double-barrelled name. I want us to be a 'proper**' family all sharing the same surname.

But I do have an elder brother who has children (ones a boy) so my fathers name will live on. (My father died when I was 7). My other brother though, disowned my father's family, and changed his name by deedpoll to my mum's maiden name (even though she still has my father's name)!

(Please note Drink isn't either of our surnames and I realise not having the same surname wouldn't make us any less of a family).

Apparently it's cheaper to change his name by deed poll before the marriage, then you only have to pay the deed poll fee that once, rather than paying it twice if you wait until after the wedding, as you have to pay for both of you.

Someone on here talked about this once, but if you post a thread asking, I'm sure someone will know for sure.

Thats funny MrsDrink, because when we got our dog I made sure she was registered under my name, when we get married H2B wants me to change all her paperwork with the KC & vets etc to take his surname too:rotfl:

I did think about keeping my maiden name but I think I like the propect of having his name:D

  • I really really thought about this one...but that would give us a surname that's 18 letters long! Plus we both have long first names 8 or 9 letters!!
