Pros and cons of lpg conversion

  • LPG is good however with 4 youngsters do you use boot because our scenic was quite small? Gas tank needs to go somewhere. LPG is it available near you? can always revert to petrol until you find some! I did 6 months between petrol fill ups when on lpg and wouldn't put more than£10 in(it hurt...............).

advice I would offer is make sure you go to a reputable garage, fit the flashlube system and keep it topped up.

I also had a Toyota Avensis which was converted to LPG without flashlube unfortunately valves failed and it was a £1000 repair.

Personally I would convert what you have rather than risk changing it for an unknown.

Any more info on this? The tax is up on my GF's 1993 Nissan 200SX at the end of the month, and her LPG fitter didn't mention it.

You register it with DVLA as dual fuel so it appears on your V5C - not sure if this will cost you £25 to do!

Then you automatically get the alternative fuel rate when you tax it.

I wikk again reiterate my earlier advice, on your annual mileage it will take around two years to get back the money for the conversion. Until that break even point you run the risk of your autobox going the way of the dodo, Renault autoboxes are well known for this habit, especially around the 60-70k mark.

Sadly there is no.good reason in investing over a grand in a car that is near the end of its usefull life in the hope that it will save you £10 a week at the pumps.

You need to do at least an average mileage or run a larger engined car to make it worth your while. A mate considered converting his Honda Odyysey which is mega reliable but old. It will almost certainly.last another ten.years but he won't own it that long so he is going to sell it this year and buy aomething either already converted to lpg or buy a diesel.

I don't think there is any way you can justify spending over a grand to save the small amount of money you will. Spend a bit getting the Renault running as good as it ever will. Check tyre pressures, full service with all filters, including air filter and fuel filter. Get the gearbox serviced and the filter replaced then put the rest of your spare money away and save up for a newer Scenic. In a years time there will be more of the last shape on the used
market with the 1.5 DCi engine, spend £2500 on as nice a one as you can find and then lie back.and reap the fuel consumption benefits

One other thing, you are actually getting pretty good mpg returns at the moment. A small engined automatic mpv loaded up with 4 people is never going to be economical. Pity you didn't buy a diesel Galaxy as in manual form they will do 45 mpg overall without many problems, however plbuy the auto and that will drop to mid 30's.

    Hi there

Thanks to everyone for their advice. After weighing up all the pros and cons, checking out nearest lpg garages and thinking about this A LOT I opted to change to a newer diesel automatic. Again, I spent a lot of time finding the right car and now am doing around 40mpg which I am very happy with.

    Thank you everyone for helping.
