So has it just gone up, or is it an EXTRA £10 to renew online?
It's not related to the online service. The road tax has simply gone up since the reminder was printed. Doesn't matter if you pay online, by post or at a post office it will still cost you £10 more. No way of avoiding it I'm afraid.
Happens to me every year:)0 -
It does cleary state on the reminder, the price is correct at time of printing and will/may differ as due to the budget on 1st April 2011 - something like that.0

So what would happen if I send it off by post with £155 and the £155 box ticked? Will they bother to write back and demand another £10?
Yes, I know it sucks, mine is the same as yours £165 this year, I was expecting a £5 rise not £10. I do consider sometimes getting a new car with £20 tax for the year.
On the plus iside, just had the MOT done, and the price has been the same for the last 3 years - £50.0 -
Mine's £20 ! Woo Hoo !!! Sorry folks, just thought i'd mention it xx0

Hmm I noticed the £10.00 increase when taxing company vehicles too, will do an on line check then pay at the Post office for my personal car at the end of this month and update0

I'm sure the post office will just tell you to pay the extra while they have you face to face. They must get that all the time. I was wondering whether if I sent it off by post with the £155 requested on the form, the DVLA would write back demanding a further payment before issuing my new tax disc.0 -
