hi, flying next thursday to madrid and was wondering if anyone knows of the cheapest/best way to hire a car for 6 days. the car needs to have seating for a 3 and a 1 year old and 2 adults and also would want to have the car fully insured so we cannot be hit with any nasty financial surprises. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. would like to pick up and return to the airport and have satnav available.

Have you already read this page? http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire - it should answer most of your questions.
Getting car seats should not be a problem, especially if you let them know in advance. To protect yourself from any financial surprises you will need to reduce your insurance excess to zero. The car hire company will almost certainly offer you this as an extra option, but you can also buy it separately before you go. The latter is cheaper but more hassle if you need to make a claim - you would have to pay the excess to the car hire firm then claim it back from the insurance company.
Sat nav can be quite expensive to hire, so check the price before you book. It may be worth looking for one to buy on sale or second hand. Alternatively, do you have a smartphone? You may be able to buy a satnav application (just make sure you don't need data access to download the maps as you drive, as this will cost a fortune in roaming charges).Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
