Boiler Troubles - Please Help
Comments
-
It's a Worcester 9.24 Electronic combi - original fault was it simply wasn't firing up, so it could have tripped then.
He replaced the air vent and gas valve and now it trips after 5 minutes of use.
Thanks:A0 -
The cause of the boiler tripping/overheating needs to be found first.
Has the pump been checked? Lack of flow is usually the main cause of overheating. May even be sludge or a blockage.0 -
Thanks, no he didn't check the pump, I did mention it but he said it was unlikely to be that.
I have noticed recently the water doesn't seem to be as hot as it used to be when it comes out of the tap, so maybe that is it.
Thanks again.:A0 -
In that case I would be looking at the plate heat echanger. It could be blocked, or scaled causing the overheat tripping, especially if this only happens when using hot water as in running a bath or showering.0

Good call, had another engineer out today who says it is the water to water heat exchanger that is at fault and it needs replacing.
Trouble is, he can't get the part. I've emailed Worcester to see if they can help or if they know the part number.
Do you think I've any chance of a refund from the other guy who said it was the gas valve?:A0 -
Got the part number, can't find anywhere doing it for less than about £200 - when you factor in labour I'm thinking it's time for a new boiler.:A0

In a word: No. I refer you back to Post #4Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
But what if the old gas valve isn't faulty?:A0

But there is no guarantee that it wasn't faulty. Often it is more than one thing that is faulty.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
You can only ask him.
I would doubt the old gas valve was faulty.
You could ask the latest chap to remove the plate and chemically clean/descale it.0
