Help!! Money what to take ????

We are going to Lanzarote this June 2011.
What do we take with us? Euro trav cheq / sterling trav cheq / euros only or cash only??????????
We are taking £1800 with us and of course we want the best exchange deal.
So many people tell so many tales of experience, what they did, what happened to them when it went wrong, how they got ripped off and the best thing i have ever done.
Other people say that a lot of places in Lanza will not exchange your cheques except liquor places / shops, do not go to the banks they will rip you off, when you do find one that does they hammer you with "admin charges".
People in the know, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TAKE YOUR MONEY OVER TO LANZA AND GET THE BEST DEAL, EITHER TAKING RISKS OR PLAYING IT SAFE.

Cheapest way is to use a fee-free debit card. Next up are fee-free credit cards, and prepaid cards. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

Safest way is probably trav. cheques, although I can't comment on how easy it is to change them. Personally I regard them as outdated and have never used them in the 15 or so years I've been travelling internationally as an adult.

Cash can be quite cheap if you go to the right places and buy it in the right way (i.e. don't get stung with debit card charges), although obviously it's the most risky way to carry money. See http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
