Swindon to Bath train commute?

Hi all:o

I spoke to a gentleman this morning from a job agency in Bristol who has a job in Bath that he is extremely keen to put me forward for.

I live in Swindon & don't drive so would need to get the train daily.

Is there anyone out there who commutes from Swindon to Bath who could tell me how much it is daily?

I know I could look on the trainline.com or similar but I thought there must be a cheaper way of buying train tickets? As people who commute can't surely have to just buy a new ticket every day?

Thanks in advance for ANY advice:D

I don't do that commute, and have no idea on prices, but by far the cheapest way would be with a Monthly or greater season ticket. Don't even contemplate buying a daily ticket!

Thanks for getting back to me!

Yes I was thinking a monthly ticket is the way forward (or, as you say, a greater season ticket!)
I was thinking that surely people who commute don't have to buy a ticket every day before work?

I looked at just buying a standard ticket and it's £10 each way!!!! It must be cheaper if I got some kind of season ticket?

WOW....train travel is expensive isn't it!! Thanks for looking at that for me isplumm :)
I think the recruitment guy said the job paid about £16k/£17k. Is it do-able to pay that much to commute after paying £550 to my other half, £103.49 for a loan and £40 for my phone bill?

It isn't. £10 each way that is.

An off peak day return (first train arrives Bath 0855) is £13.40.

An anytime day return is £14.30

A season is still better value

Daily tickets might be a bit cheaper with a 16-25 railcard if you are eligible - it doesn't reduce the season though.

Huh? Thats what I said lol! It's £10 each way when you just buy a normal ticket off of the trainline.

Why can't train travel just be cheaper lol! They need some kind of train oyster card system! :)

A standard ticket costs £9.50 for an Off Peak day Return, or £14.30 for an Anytime Day Return.

Why would anyone buy a £9.40 Single when they are coming back the same day?

    Oh, also...
    Do not buy from thetrainline.
Avoid the fees they charge by buying from a train operating company.

All of that adds up to a little under 700 quid a month, the quoted season ticket price brings it to about £910 a month leaving £90 a month of disposable income.

Is that more disposable income than you have currently?

It'd be about £1100 a month as my partner is on just under £16k & that's what he takes home. Hoping I would get near £17k as the man at the recruitment agency said :)

I will call the recruitment agency tomoro & see if there's any news about the role & if I can print off the registration forms myself & send them as I don't think I have enough money to afford to go to Bristol & register with the recruitment agency.
