what are my rights to return this item?

my hubby purchased a football (old style!) on saturday he wore it sunday to wembley - we washed it yesterday on a 30 degree wash when the label states it was ok at 40 degrees and it has shrunk !?

it has not been in the tumble dryer and i am wondering if they will refund / exchange the item?

previously when this has happened before they have stated we cant prove we followed the wash instructions ? is this right ?

many thanks

  • I've always washed football shirts by hand or on a delicate setting without any fabric conditioner and put on a hanger to dry so never had the problem.

Did you wash the previous shirt at the same temperature? which store is it from?
  • there was no fabric softner used and yes it is from the same place its exactly the same top we were forced to buy another - from the stoke city club shop.

this isn made from the thin silky material new shirts are made from its an old from the 50's/60's style top made from a thick cotton.
  • Have you googled searched to see if there is a problem with the shirt? If two shirts from same supplier brought from different shops have the problem - are there any more? Could be able to point it out and get refund that way?

Will the shop not consider an exhange?
  • yeah i could do i could ask ny hubby post a message on their footy site - they wouldn entertain an exchange last time !

So this has happened before ?

    Same circumstances ?

  • yeah this happened a few months back they refused to refund/exchange as we couldnt prove we had washed it according to the label - i thought buyinh the same top now was silly but he wanted it for wembley so who was i to comment!

so now we are in the same dilemma i purposley put it on a lower temp was and it was only on a quick daily wash too but it still has shrunk and i'm not happy as these shirts are £40 a pop!

My Bosch washing machine has a 'SuperQuick' wash/rinse/spin program that takes 15 minutes in total with a default temperature of 30C and spin of 800.

I expected it to be just a 'freshen-up' program for clothes that you've just worn for a couple of hours but it was a very aggressive (iykwim) wash and shrunk 2 tops which said OK at 40C.

    Could that be the problem?

My husband has a few of the thick retro footy tops and what I do when I wash them, is put them on a normal 40 wash, with softener and as soon as the load has finished, I take them out and pull them hard back into shape.

They do look smaller when I take them out but with a good pull they're fit to go! :)

I think this is a good idea.
If you've washed it in accordance with the instructions, surely lots of other people who've bought the same type will have had the same problem.

Do you still have the first shirt?

2 shrunken shirts plus other dissatisfied customers who also want refunds should convince the club shop that they have a problem with the shirts.
