iPhone 3gs back cracked

I have had my iphone nearly two years and I've just noticed a crack on the back starting at the docking point and going up about half an inch. Is it necessary to repair this or can it be ignored? I plan to give the phone to my wife when I upgrade.

  • Common problem - If you can take it to an Apple store, they may well swap it over for a new one

I don't think it will be a major problem if you decide not to repair it - I haven't heard of the crack extending all the way up the back before or anything.

  • Funnily.. I have this issue as well, I was going to take it to the Apple store (as I plan to give the phone to my OH when I upgrade) but I think I'll just put a more protective case on it.

It should be fine, but I've heard these cracks are fixable under warranty.. if it's out of warranty and you fancy doing it yourself, there's some guides online!

How long is Apples standard warranty?
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Couple of members of the family have had this issue, seems to make no difference to the operation of the phone.
  • Anyone still under warrenty with this issue take it to an Apple shop and they will exchange it for a brand new iPhone 3GS - The same happened to my iPhone 3GS and i took it to the Apple store and they gave me a new phone - 2 days later i upgraded to an iPhone 4 so had a brand new 3GS to sell:p

    Your very welcome. :D
  • You can make an appointment at an Apple store if you have this problem,

I did with my old iphone 3g, It too had a crack forming from the charging dock at the bottom, I took it into store within my 12 months warranty mind, And the exchanged it for a new handset.

You can check your iphones warranty status by visiting apple uk online, search google for "apple iphone warranty check"

Get your serial number ready either off your box or by tapping in *#06# and it will display your serial.

    Hope this helps
