question about new deal sanctions?

If you get a sanction does that affect your housing benefit too or is it just your jobseekers you lose?

Hi. If you are not entitled to benefit, then you will not be entitled to housing benefit either.

Apply for JSA Hardship as soon as you can and also appeal against the sanction. You have nothing to lose by doing so.

Also speak to your housing office soon and explain what has happened. They may allow you to pay back the rent in instalments - sometimes direct from your benefit.

    Hope that helps....

That is wrong - HB/ LHA can be claimed on the basis of being on a low income. A JSA sanction has no impact on HB (except potentially increasing it, if JSA is Conts Based), although it is always worthwhile informing the LA of any change in income.

Hi. Thanks very much for pointing that out, that is something I did not know. So does that mean if someone who receives JSA Income Based becomes disallowed because they are not meeting the conditions of entitlement mean they can still get their rent and council tax paid?

Yep, that is correct. Not much of an incentive to look for work really. :o

Okay thanks. I work in an office dealing with Crisis Loan applications. Quite a fair few are to deal with rent arrears built up because of benefit sanctions or disallowancies and the rent was not paid. So I guess the caller has to go and speak to their local housing office instead as the arrears will be incorrect? Meaning when Jobcentre Plus send a download to the LA that benefit entitlement has stopped, if the caller makes contact, their entitlement to HB will be reinstated.

I will let my command know about this tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

Yep, absolutely. Having said that, if there have been some dodgy dealings going on, they could have been stung with an administrative penalty on their HB award, but this will not stop their entitlement altogether.

I know not your fault personally but this is just shocking! You would think that the crisis loan dept would know this already.

there is a more shocking one about, mizzy claims to be a senior benefits advisor or something yet knows absolutely nothing, she also never posts again on threads where she has posted rubbish and been found out, I worry for the people lobing up to get benefit advice to these people.

Hi. Thanks - I agree - but they expect the "Crisis Loan Department" to know about Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support, Tax Credits, Child Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Widows Pension, Housing benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Free School Meals, War Pensions, Pension Credit, State Pension, Widowed Mothers Allowance, Bereavement Benefit, Maternity Grants, SSP, Funeral Payments, Budeting Loans, Industrial Injuries Benefit, Incapacity Benfefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Carer's Allowance, Community Care Grants, Training Allowance, the New Deal Subsidy and a good few more that I forget. Crisis Loan staff come across people receiving a combination of these and its difficult trying to keep track of everthing and the changes. I learn more on here than I do in post! I meant to add - we are not given time off for training in the changes as we need to stay on the telephone due to "business needs"

Hi. Are you saying I am shocking? What an awful way with words you have.

I am just trying to give advice when I come on here.

I don't always get it right. Someone else will correct me usually, so everyone learns.

But you seem to be looking for a certain person posting just so you can back them up.

What a disgrace if that is correct and really not very nice. Life is too short.

We are all on here for a reason, but not to be anything but helpful surely?
