Hi guys,
My 2 year old Beko WM6167W is on the blink - it fills up ok, drains ok but doesn't do much else...
Immediate thoughts were either heating element or motor... put it on a spin and a rinse cycle (where no water heating takes place) to discount the heating element and it still wouldn't work... therefore I think I have narrowed it down to the motor... is this a good assumption to make?
Now onto the motor... after reading around (and seeing how easy they are to change), I want to believe its the brushes but I understand it could be the wiring or PCB....
If anyone is knowledgeable on the subject then I would like to know
a) your thoughts on what could be wrong (i.e. am I barking up the wrong tree)
b) is there any ways I can double check what the problem is (I intend to take the brushes out tonight to check their condition... if not then I am stumped)
c) likely charges to get a repair man out to 1) have a look at it and b) to fix it (obviously hard to say without knowing whats wrong but there we go..)
d) whether to just buy a new one with decent warranty and skip the old one which seems a waste and very un-ecofriendly though but we could spend £££'s getting this fixed and it breaks again next week..
Thanks for any assistance.
Oh and if anyone has seen decent offers on a good washing machine then please let me know, looking to spend as little as possible for min 1400 spin (pref 1600 to match current) and with a long warranty..

could be lots of things. brushes should still be ok after only 2 yrs though.
a repair man will cost min of 50 quid. plus parts.
maybe better to buy a 199 quid indesit (tesco price) machine. only a 1 yr warranty though.
try john lewis for a decent 2/5 yr warranty. various machines.
a bit more pricey though, about 250 quid ish.Get some gorm.0 -
so if you put it on a normal wash cycle what does it do? will it complete the cycle and drain on its own or does it fill with water then just move the drum round a bit and do nothing else?0
-
On a normal cycle it literally just fills up and then stops..... nothing else at all..... no drum movement at all... (I have checked the belt BTW and thats still on and looks ok)A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

if the drum shows no movement whatsoever its either the motor or the controller(pcb), if it was the element or thermostat the drum would still move after its finished filling whilst it was heating/waiting to reach temperature, providing the drum moves round by hand ok and is not jammed/seized you would need to be able to unplug the motor plug and test with a meter for power supply to prove if the fault was the motor or controller/timer/pcb, unless you are competant with mains electrics i wouldn't advise trying this, you could unplug the appliance from the mains and check the plug which supplies power to the motor to make sure it hasnt come loose, i would advise contacting the manufacturer or a local supplier/flea bay and finding the pricce of a new motor and controller before you call in an engineer, that way you are paying his labour at an agreed rate and not getting ripped off by some heavy parts price profiteering, or you could use the manufacturers own engineers if the have any0

If you leave it after setting it going does it eventually drain the drum without prompting0

It depends on the usage as to the state of the Brushes.
Why buy a new washer when a punt on a set of brushes will be £7 ish
OP - As mentioned - IF YOU ARE COMPETENT - check there is power getting to the motor.
If there is, then my bet is on the Brushes. (But of course it could be the motor or PCB as you say)
I have changed brushes on two machines (One mine - one my friends) and they are very simple to do.
Check out WasherHelp - they helped me“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
re the brushes, aye anything is is possible.
its possible gordon brown will be re-elected as PM, but most unlikely.Get some gorm.0 -
Brushes wear out gradually ..you would have noticed it under performing a long time before it stopped working ..you would have heard it not quite get up to speed ..sort of a slowing down and speeding up act ..when it was on spin.
if the water is not heating up during the period it is on ..put it down to the heating element .
put it on boil wash ..and see if it heats up...
how long is the period between when it fills up and drains down.
all the best.markj0 -
Hi guys, following a fantastic youtube video the other day, took the motor out of the machine and took the brushes off... they looked ok, but a new set was £10 on ebay so ordered some anyway...
They just arrived today so fitted them and low and behold it only bleedin worked.... when I looked back at the old brushes, one was much longer than the other... must have worn unevenly for some reason.... very strange...
Anyway i'm now very happy, £400+ saved for the sake of a bit of elbow grease and a £10 part....
BTW the video I used was on this link, just scroll down
