Freesat+HD & Humax

I ordered one last night after reading all the recommendations! Just hope it is a simple to install as you all say.
Plug in to mains, connect dish leads, switch on - it asks for postcode and that's it. When you get ned channels etc it gives you an on screen message just asking if you'd like to update the EPG.
Hotukdeals have reported a few offers on the Humax Freesat boxes over the last few days.
Humax HD-FOX T2 Freeview HD (No PVR)- £74.99 @ Sainsburys (Instore Only)
Humax Foxsat-HDR Freesat+ Box 320GB Hard Drive PVR - £149.95 @ Richer Sounds (Instore) - This one has expired but I included it to show how little you can get these for if you hunt around.
You'll have to report back and let us know what you think of it allIf it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x0 -

Long story short, I now pay £15 for LL&BB and I have Freesat HD recorder box (Humax) and I love it, it works exactly like the old Sky+ box and I have it connected to the internet so I can have BBC iPlayer and ITV Player streamed directly to my TV. BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD all FREE FOREVER not £10 a month extra on top like sky.
I can't recommend Freesat (and Humax) any more, two of my family have seen it and also given Sky and Virgin the heave-ho. £25+ better off each month/£300 a year (or another holiday) for the sake of losing 8 hours a month of OKish TV.
Can I ask who you have your LL & BB from for £15. Is that unlimited BB as we do need that. Defo thinking of dumping Virgin in June and going Freesat too.

Does this mean it doesnt record?

I get BBC iPlayer but not ITV Player. Has there been another new software update that I am missing?
It's still in the beta stages of testing, although you can access it with a remote unlock - Go to Ch999 >> (Don't press Red) >> Press Green Green Blue Green Green >> Wait 5-10 seconds >> ITV Player loads.:DIf it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. I don't have unlimited BB, I have 60GB. I'm with Plusnet £12 for the line rental and £11.49 for the 60GB, but I told them I was leaving as Talk Talk were offering £12.50ish line rental and 40 GB broadband for free - they offered me their 60GB and line rental for £15 to keep me. With Plusnet broadband their is no contract tie in so no waiting 12-18 months to threaten to leave, although mine wasn't a threat it was a promise LL & 40GB BB for £12.50!If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. We are now in profit after dumping Virgin TV last September and buying a Humax and sat dish.
Can't say our TV watching has been affected!
C4 HD was launched yesterday on freesat channel 126 - you may have to retune.0 -
Only criticism of humax is the control system is not as intuitive as sky and it takes longer to delete a program.
Other issues are down to me not reading the manual or huge amount of web support and forums dedicated to this product. It is a very clever piece of kit and I only use a fraction of it.
Sky is getting more and more expensive and am very glad we switched.0 -
Hi there thepurplegoldfish. I bought the humax freesat for my parents and I saw that it could run BBC iplayer which would be good as they are too old to sit in front of their computer screen. I could not see how to get it to work though. Is it easy??? Could you tell me how to do it so that I could get it to work next time I visit. Thank you in advance.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0

Connect the Freesat box to their router via a cable, just plugs in at each end - DONE. You just select BBC iPlayer channel or press the red button if you're already on a Beeb channel. Honestly if I can don this anyone can do it.If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. Thank you for your reply. The only problem is their computer is upstairs and the tv is downstairs. They do have a wireless router if this helps though?Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0
