Hi guys
Ive been with BT as my main phone provider for yonks and never had a problem. My contract is up for renewal and was wondering what the best option is available for me.
A) Stick with BT and pay the line rental upfront plus £3 for evening and weekend calls.
I get my broadband from o2. Im on the old standard package (unlimited downloads) and am really happy with the service. Would I be able to use their home phone package as its only £7.50 line rental and £2.50 evening and weekends or do I have to switch to one of their new broadband packages (not gonna do that)
C) What other options are available to me. Only need line rental and calls
Got to sort something out quick as I have to renew my contract with BT by 21st
Thanks in advance

Why do you have to renew by the 21st? If you don't, the contract does not end, it just becomes a 30 day rolling contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've just moved over to o2 completley saved a lot of cash and used quidco also, be aware though that BT will probably hit you with a termination fee without telling you about it first if you do leave.Adam

No you DON'T! You contract will simply carry on as before. You;ve only reached your minimum term, not your closure of service date.
Relax.... you;vew all the time to decide, and just 30 days notice to give.0 -
Hey I too am facing a dilemma - my contract with BT is coming to an end. should i stay or move? Any ideas?
the contract was
line rental 12.79 - 1.25 paper free = 11.54 - 3 credit for 12 month contract = 8.54
call plan any time 4.99 - 1 discount = 3.99
so a total of 12.53 per month
i do not want to pay upfront for the next 12 months but an willing to be tied up for another 12 months
i have yet to call them but when i check online on my BT account, the offer is 12.35 rental +4 anytime = 16.35
i will be paying nearly £4 more per month for the same thing!
surely, i can get a better deal for renewing contract for 12 months?
want some advice before i call them.
thanks, g.0 -
BT residential line rental is now £13.90/month and their Unlimited Anytime calls plan is £4.70/month = £18.60 and, taking into account £1.25/month paper free discount, your base price is £17.35/month.
Offers of £2 or £3/month discount on the line rental are regularly offered in exchange for agreement to a new 12 month contract.
Beware the annual Line Rental Plan which, although offering a saving on line rental, will instantly lose you (probably permanently) the £1.25/month paper free discount.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz, if Primus is 7.99 line rental + evn/wknd offer, then that is a lot better, isn't it?0

At face value, of course it is (except for the lack of inclusive calls). Thanks Heinz, if Primus is 7.99 line rental + evn/wknd offer, then that is a lot better, isn't it?
However, I'd advise a very careful check of other threads for people's experiences of Primus.
Beware also the £2.50 cost of Caller Display.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. We have just left BT for The Post Office.
I get a month free, a tenner discount as I said my brother in law referred me(not strictly true)..he also was down to get a tenner discount!:)
When I was in conversation with BT they would have done their best to price match any given situation...so definitely be ready to get the deal you really want if you think you might stay with BT
I opted for the PO as they offer free call at the weekend to mobs and abroad.0 -
Just letting you all know - I got a letter from BT saying my contract would be automatically renewed in early June. So i called them and the offer is not great but i took it as my other options were primus about which a lot is said in these forums and sky which is similar.
The main thing is for renewing my 12 month contract, i was offered no reduction in the line rental of 13.90 unless i pay upfront which i cannot. But they reduced my anytime plan rate. So instead of paying 18.60 with a £4 off (3 for landline and 1 for plan) = 14.60-1.25 paper free discount = 13.35, i now have to pay 18.60 with a £3 off for plan = 15.60-1.25 = 14.35. i settled for this as i am hard pressed for time now.0 -
I had an old contract with BT for phone and broadband but it was very expensive. When I called them and said I was going to change to another provider they offered me £10 line rental (year in advance) plus anytime calls and level 3 broadband for £13 for 12 months - I know there are probably cheaper deals but I have been happy with my BT service, just not the price. The man I spoke to was really helpful, went through it all and the new deal was effective immediately. Plus because I had already paid a quarter's line rental in advance my bill will be pretty low for a few months.0
