Opera update
Now I've found it has added a load of bookmarks I don't particularly want. For example, I've now got an ebay bookmark, with an address of redir.opera.com/bookmarks/ebay/. I guess they're generating revenue by forcing them on everyone. It's not an outstanding browser IMO, but not a bad one. However, it certainly gets a black mark for this stunt.

Forcing? What are you talking?
Delete and replace with your own if you feel bad. Do you object to them making money? Do you want them to work for nothing?0 -

They put them there without my consent or knowledge, that's what I call forcing. My own were left there, so I have deleted the ones they forced there.
I don't object to them making money, just would like to be forewarned about how they are going about it when it has such an impact on the interface.
Unfortunately for them, they are up against serious competition, all of it free to the end user. If you had to choose between two products of equal merit and one dumped advertising in your face, even if you could get rid of it, which would you choose?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Opera.
Still think your post is nonsense.
Which browser forewarns you?
Google are no better, making me have to disable their 'services' after installation of their browser.
I'm happy to continue using Opera. The features suit my style of browsing. I other use the other browsers intermittently.
The built-in email client is the fastest and most convenient around.
It's no problem for me to replace their links with my own. In fact I don't bother if I'm going to be using those websites anyway.
If they can raise some money for wages and development by me clicking through to a website I'm going to visit anyway I have no problem with it. It's not costing me, nor you, anything.
If it irks you, uninstall their product and use another of the 'serious competition'.
Personally, I think that you are being petty.
I see that you are still using this website even though they use a click through system too.0 -
I have to say that since I have changed to Opera, I am pretty impressed.. I am on the Internet a lot and this one suits me fine... It appears to be faster... I have tried other browsers in the past... for some reason, I didn't like Google Chrome .. and tended to return to Internet Explorer, although I often found it slow and sluggish... but everyone I have told to change to Opera are saying the same... pretty impressed.... I've yet to try the email.... I am looking forward to it....

In addition, Opera were the first to introduce Speed Dial. Not everyone knew how to use it, so including some popular Speed Dials is hardly an imposition. People can keep them or replace them with their own.
I can hardly believe that someone would complain about this.0 -
How do you think they can afford to supply you with their browser free of charge if they don't generate revenue in this way?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Every browser adds bookmarks for e-bay ect...they are a pita but easy to remove,0

This has been discussed in the Opera forums. They are trivial to delete so no big issue, but it might have been better if they had gone in a sub-folder in the bookmarks rather than mixed up with your existing ones in the base folder. You also need to delete the associated cookies, downloaded when the favicons were obtained.
Opera is a great browser and VERY customisable. When you have used it for many years like me there really is no other browser worth considering.0 -
Couldn't agree more with the sub-folder suggestion.
It is a good browser, but if you have the misfortune to use Outlook Web Acccess, only IE gives you the full interface (thanks to our friends at MS!), even Firefox doesn't. One of the online banking systems I use only supports IE and Firefox as well.
If you have to provide some support to private end users, many don't even know what a browser is, never mind which one they are using. Quite a few still have IE6. Those you usually can persuade to at least upgrade, if not replace their browser.
I use Opera for this site just so that I can use it regularly. Much as I hate to praise Micro$oft, IE9 does seem to be reasonable and easy to get end users to upgrade to.
Can't be doing with switching browsers for different sites when IE does it all. IE8 drove me crazy with its little quirks though and would have dumped it if IE9 hadn't come along.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
