Capital One or Vanquis

in Credit cards
Hi All, my OH has a pretty poor credit rating. He's up to date on payments now, has one credit card and an overdraft. However, previously (a number of years ago) he was late on a number of payments for cards now payed off. He has also tried to apply for loans previously to consolidate his debt but not being a homeowner, cannot secure the amount he required.
He's not good with money unless it's cash but I want to try and help him rebuild his credit rating so he can possibly revisit the loan option in the future and generally get back on track.
I intend to be in full control of this card to ensure he doesn't get into any defualt payments.
Using the moneysupermarket tool, it says he's got an 8/10 chance of a Capital One Progress or Classis card, and the same for Vanquis.
Besides the APR (which won't matter as the card will be paid off each month in full), would he be better off applying for one of these cards above the other? He's had Capital One in the past but I have no experience of Vanquis. He's prob got one shot at an application so I don't want to pick the wrong card to apply for.
Thanks

Vanquis is generally considered the easiest card to get. It's the loose-moralled tramp of the credit card world and will take on most anybody.0

I would go for cap1 first or aqua even - vanquis is the last resort, if he can't get a vanquis he deserve's a slap.
Even i got one.The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0 -

I find it ok - interest is still a bit high, mines personally at 29% but not a problem as i pay off in full, they are underwritten by halifax and everything else handled by sav credit, customer service i found surprisingly good and they give half decent limits for us on the bottom end of the scale. :-)The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0

aqua is harder of the subprime to getDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

He'll get a Vanqswiz card if he has a pulse, they have even started taking on the recently deceased and those who have chosen cryogenic suspension.
I heard Walt Disney now has one but they put him on the 69.9% band as he only has a head, and a frozen one at that."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

You say he's had a Capital One card in the past - that might be significant. Did he default with Capital One previously? They might be hesitant to take him on as a customer again if there's a negative history there... Vanquis is easier in any case0

A capital one default of mine was written into a bankruptcy order.
Less than three years later they approved me for a Progress card - instantly; no refer.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
