Many billionares became wealthy through *******. It's understandable that they want a posh pad, which is centralised, and difficult to break into. No one wants to be a Khodorkovsky or worse, shot (ok different country).

You don't make that sort of money without creating enemies along the way.
  • 50,000 sq ft isn't a flat; it's a supermarket.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

Is it really worth the extra £(multi)millions to live right in the centre of London ? I suppose if you have £billions, you might as well. But really, for a mere £(few)million, you could live virtually anywhere else in the UK.

This dude won't be living in it though, will he? I imagine that even if he ever does stay in it it'll just be for a couple of nights a year when he's in London.

The guy is said to be worth £10bn so buying this pad represents around 13% of his wealth. So whilst it isn't a small purchase, it's the equivalent of someone with £100,000 in savings choosing to invest £13,000 in a property.

By the way, I heard on the grapevine that Hamish was interested in this place but couldn't quite get the mortgage. My sources at the Halifax mortgage team said that he got quite angry with them on the phone when they told him that it just wasn't company policy to lend 1400 times someone's salary to buy a property and that he'd have to come up with more than a 0.0004% deposit.

Apparently the only words they could make out through all the swearing and cursing was 'rationing' and 'unrealistic deposit requirements'.

Might want to check the maths on that - £10bn = 10,000 millions.

What a very fine point. So 1.3% of his wealth? He should have bought two.

They can't be 25,000 sq feet each, i think, as that would be 50,000 sq feet for the two, and the article says prices start from £6k per square foot. So even at that price, you'd buy 22,600 sq feet with £136 million. As these are the penthouses, they'd be more per sq. ft.

If I had this kind of money I would book myself into a 5 star hotel for the rest of my life.

    Like this man did?

I guess he had an interesting life before his marbles started to go.

Just think; these days he could enjoy a social life by posting on MSE.

At least this couple are trying to do something useful with their immense wealth.

Definitely needs a refit as it looks more like a posh Indian restaurant than a home.
