    ...and so has no warranty?

No. Not true. A manufacturer will not invalidate a warranty over 500 miles.

You made an assertion about the variance in price that I was able to counter without even having to look. SG Petch's prices are relatively competitive and always have been. I realise that you don't like Motorpoint, you make that quite clear, but you're dead wrong on this one -- their prices are typically much cheaper than main dealers and in fact if we extend this particular example to the one-year-old cars originally mentioned, rather than the <4 month old one I highlighted it is very easy to get hold of a car that is not even due its service yet.

I don't like hire cars, I have nothing against Motorpoint. Some of their deals are good.

    Oh and FYI.... http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/hyundai/i30/1.6-crdi-comfort-auto/2010-%2810%29/ref/arnem-533760/ ;)

Is it not the case though that Arnold Clark are themselves a discounter (albeit one that sells new cars as well)?

You will not find such deals at the typical local friendly family-run place.

Yeah Arnold Clark sell LOTS of ex hire crap too. They're a used car business that needs to sell new cars in order to have franchises. That's a direct quote from a senior manager.

(saying that, they have good deals on new cars too because they buy in bulk - my Picanto was built in Oct 2010 so it's obviously been sitting in their compound for quite a while along with the other 100 they bought :rotfl:)

At the end of the day, you're buying a car not a dealer. If the car seems OK, go with your gut. I bought from Autoquake, and despite one or two problems I accept that because it was a cheap car I wasn't buying a Rolls Royce. You have to be realistic.

And as long as a car has the warranty I wouldn't be too bothered about initial condition over and above cosmetics -- it's all fixable, especially with 4 years to play with. And a car with 10000 miles on the clock hasn't had chance to get knackered yet IMO.

Thats not a problem to me as long as the car looks ok, and it has the remaining 4 years ish of the hyundai warranty.

Why should it be a problem

It will, if it hasn't been serviced according to the schedule.

Missing service history? It's one year old with 10000 miles or so on the clock!!!

When you are looking at a year old car, for often the same price as the main dealers are charging for 2 or 3 year old examples, I'm sorry but warranty+age+lower miles trumps any concerns about how it's been looked after IMO.

It was/is the same story with the online places that sell high-mileage fleet cars for £3000. Yes they may have been thrown around, yes the seller might not prepare the cars as well, but next to a car that might be 3 or 4 years older for the same price? All that stuff ceases to apply.

If the car looks pristine (as most of them do) don't worry about it.

Can you see what I did there? ;)

negated by the second sentence. If a car has not done enough miles to need a service it does not have "missing service history" by definition.

    Must try harder. C-.
