Whats in your capsule wardrobe?

A few years back I had a "capsule" wardrobe. It consisted of work clothes, half a dozen cheap t-shirts, two pairs of jeans and a frock my cousin gave me.
I was minimilist by necessity not by inclination.
Now I have, nine coats, seventeen jackets, about two dozen frocks...
I could go on and on and on:j
Clothes are a joy. What sane woman wants one skirt and two tops hanging forlornly in her wardrobe?
Where on earth is the fun in that?Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
I found that really interesting and I'm thinking of getting her book because our library doesn't have it. (Just checked online.)
I've only dipped into her site but after reading for a few minutes my brain was yelling
"Where are her exercise clothes?"
"What does she wear on the beach?"
Does she really wear that black shift to every dressy event she attends? Every wedding / party / summer ball / day at the races / barbecue / funeral / job interview..?"
"When it's boiling hot that's what she wears????"
"Does she ever feel sexy in any of that?"
"When it's freezing she doesn't need scarves and gloves like the rest of us? "
I guess she doesn't surf either!
I'd love a capsule wardrobe. I despise clutter.:D but I just can't get my head round it.
I agree with you. I don't have loads of clothes and recently someone really gave me a load of earache because I said my wardrobe was quite capsule but when I listed everything it sounded like lots. Why? Because I do stuff! As well as the everyday things I exercise, go hiking, swimming, lounge on the beach and things like that. That adds clothing, accessories and footwear that I need for those activities but don't wear as day-to-day outfits. They're still clothes though!0 -
I don't think I could cope with a wardrobe as minimal as hers mind
and there's an awful lot of black. How about when she goes outside in the summer? I would have classed that as more of a work uniform. Oh well, if it suits her

I don't want to be picky but when I clicked on the bit 'All about me' on miss minamilist's web site those don't look like the clothes from her capsule wardrobe! the skirt is grey, she lists one black skirt. That could be the cardi, but I spy a black vest under it I think.:rotfl: Made me feel better, as I couldn't possibly describe my wardrobe as capsule, what's the opposite
Having said that, I enjoyed looking at her website.0 -

Two years ago I had a capsule wardrobe of:
navy trouser, navy long-sleeved t-shirt
black ditto
grey ditto
A selection of cardigans in various colours. I found this worked really well and was quite slimming too.
Last year I bought (in the sales) a few sweater dresses/tunics - long sleeved, which I wore with black or navy trousers. I had them in black, turquoise, magenta, black/cream striped.
For summer I have linen trousers in black, beige and white. I mix and match them with jackets the same colours (but at different times) and a selection of t-shirts.
(PS not capsule as my wardrobes are bursting!)0 -

Oh god I have too many clothes for a capsule wardrobe!!
I think if I did have one I'd get too bored with it, having said that I do have things I haven't worn for a while as I seem to go through phases of what I like and feel comfy in. For example last winter I wore mainly skirts and boots but this winter was jeans and trainers.
Anyone else find this?0 -

I reckon you should get rid of either the grey or the black trousers. It's always handy to have a pair in. Maybe when your next pair of jeans wears out, see how you cope with 4 pairs and so on down to 2 pairs?
Joggers and leggings should be burned (IMHO) but then I'm always warmer in jeans and then get changed to pjs and dressing gown at night.
What's a lounge coat (I'm probably being really dim but just can't picture it!). Hang onto the teddie if you'll ever wear it.
I'd get rid of the tops you don't wear because you still have lots you do wear. Keep hold of the sports stuff if you are ever likely to use it because it's expensive to replace. Same with the swimming cossie.
Maybe trim the occasion dresses down to 2 or 3. Try wearing the summer dress and the work dresses. If you then decide you don't like them, get rid.
Personally, I don't count my decorating clothes or any specialised kit in my capsule wardrobe. It's not often that I wear my hiking shoes but I do still need them and we all need them in our family to the extent that the children have them too even though they keep growing. We live on a very steep hill and when it snows you need really good footwear to get up and down from the school and down to shops for food. Plus we like stomping round the mendips and the woods when the mood takes us (probably once a fortnight in the winter and twice a week in summer term time. Lucky if it's not every day in school holidays though:)).
You are obviously thinking about this carefully so good luck with your capsuleDebt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
