Options
We are going to the states in 2 weeks and wanted to do a search online to find out where to buy an Apple I phone. Does anyone know of any good American search engines ?

  • i believe the iphone is still restricted to the A &TT network. will this effect your plans
  • AT&T and Verizon. You'll need to jailbreak it of you want to use it in the UK.

make sure you get a version with a sim or you will have wasted your money, not all US networks have sim card

I'd be careful buying a locked phone from anywhere, not just the US.. One wrong move and you are stuck with no phone until they release an unlock for the latest software, which some times take months..

Jailbreak (which they tend to find pretty soon after a new version) and unlock are 2 completely different things.... If you buy a locked iphone in the UK you can atleast request an unlock code from the provider, I dont think you can with AT&T, they dont issue them.

and the minute you leave the u.s. with it there is no warranty. So rather buy one here on fleabay brand new and with warranty. My iPhone 4 cost £400
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

note that for these phones the cost is if you take a 2 year contract - do you really want to pay an additional $29.99 a month for 24 months for something you wont get any benefit for...makes it over $900...must be able to get it cheaper her on PAYG

    just don't

a contract free iphone 4 in the US is something like $699 (not including sales tax), and it would be locked to AT&T (dont even think about buying the verizon iphone as that uses CDMA),.

if you want it at a the reduced $199 then you will need to sign up for a 2 year contract and while your at it buy yourself a house over there as you will also require a US billing address.

and to kick you more there is no 'unlock' for an uptodate iphone 4 so buying one and then jailbreaking it would be useless.

just go down to apple store in the UK and get an offical sim free one (sales tax included), or go on ebay, don't waste your time getting one from the US.
