Do you guys send a recipt or like a thanks you note when you post out a item.

If so what do you put in it?

I print out the paypal advice note & enclose that. I've had repeat business several years later from buyers who only traced me from it.

I also send an email confirming receipt of their order & payment, date of despatch and service used. I've found if I click reply on the paypal email informing me of their payment, the reply goes to their email address. I update the date of despatch each morning and copy and paste it all day.
Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
    Should OF, would OF
. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.

I'd find that quite odd, unless you sell anything remotely related... Also people may be diabetic or on a diet, or just not like them.
But maybe I'm being too negative. How do people react? do they mention that on their fb?

I wouldn't find it odd, I would think it was nice. If people don't want the sweets they can give them away.

I order stuff from Wiggle occasionally and they usually put a little extra with the order.

terra_ferma - I think it depends on what the item is - I sell quite fun and frivolous clothing items and the Haribo seems to go down well - both emails from customers and feedback reflect this.

If I were selling more 'sober' items then I doubt I would include them. As Geri says quite a lot of online retailers (Wiggle as mentioned and Firebox) include little bags of sweets and I know from forums such as these that they put a smile on the face of their customers.

I only got a sweet once from Rymans online when I bought some office stuff, which I found very odd.
But whatever works with customers, I'd go for it.

I used to enclose a little "thank you for bidding on my auction - with my address and details on" note, but now I just send the item, put my name and address on the parcel, and notify the buyer which day I've posted their item by clicking the 'item sent' box and mentioning it in feedback left.

Rymans! That it is a bit odd - I'd have expected a paperclip if anything!

I've created a compliment slip which is a third of the size of an A4 sheet, which has "with compliments..." on it, a little clipart of something(!) that is relevant to my ebay user ID, and my email address on it, plus my returns policy on the bottom edge.

A package with just the item in it seems just too cold and how else are you going to get some more free advertising? I sold something fishing related and wrote a note on the compliment slip saying "glad this is going to a fellow Angler" and their user ID appeared on the bidding list of another item a couple of weeks later..coincidence?

Not even a message to confirm dispatch? Hope you don't mind me asking what your star for comms looks like. I have very high stars for comms, had 5 til no long ago, and I always though one of the reasons were the emails I send, but I'd be interested to know if that's actually the case :)

I have software that formats and prints out an address label and dispatch note from Paypal so include that. I also use Selling Manager (the free version) to send an email on dispatch of the item thanking the buyer for their custom.

If I receive an item without any sort of paperwork I actually feel a bit cheated, as it would be nice to know who the item actually came from as I sometimes get multiple items on the same day. Also when I buy business supplies and need a delivery note for my records.

    I'd always assumed that too.

I'm using up teeny tiny post-its in ebay parcels, partly to save weight as I often find I'm on the boundary between two weight limits. 'Ordinary' buyers get a signed 'thank you for your purchase' - repeat buyers or particularly lovely buyers get a bit more.
