Moving from T-Mobile contract
Hi guys, long time lurker here looking for some advice. Anything you can provide would be great.
I got a contract phone on T-Mobile through Carphone Warehouse a couple years back. The minimum period's expired and I'd like to switch to another network on PAYG as I don't use my mobile enough to really justify anything else.
From what I've read the networks enforce a 30 day notice period in order to cancel a contract, which would of course bring me into a new billing period and another £15 down the pan. Am I right though, that if I got a PAC code to retain my number, the contract would be cancelled as soon as the number was transferred?
I have about 3 weeks until the billing period ends, so I'm not in a huge hurry on this. I don't trust myself to get through T-Mobile's apparently infamous cross-selling over the phone, so I want to do this via recorded post if possible just to be safe.
So, the questions! I'm really just typing whatever comes to mind, so I probably don't need an answer to everything.
Cheers,
Ian

- Might/would getting the contract through CPW cause any issues with cancelling the contract?
- Does getting a PAC code and using it cause a contract cancellation immediately?
- If so, is there anything else I'd need to do on the T-Mobile end?
- Am I able to cancel/request a PAC code through the post?
- Would the Customer Service address listed on T-Mobile's site be the best place to send to, or is there a better alternative?
- Is there anything major I should/shouldn't say in the letter to make sure I get the cancellation/code?
- After getting confirmation and/or doing the switch, should I stop Direct Debit manually or are there pitfalls to doing so?
Cheers,
Ian

If T-Mobile are charging you in advance ( when you took out the contract was your 1st bill between 1 - 2 months line rental? ) then when you use the PAC you could even get a refund if it is used straight away. (Depending on the billing cycle.)
With respect to requesting the PAC, when I last wrote to T-Mobile to request one I received a letter saying that I had to ring them because they needed to check security details before supplying it.
If you are out of minimum contract they should give you the PAC during the call.Using the PAC / cancelling the contract has nothing to do with CPW.
When I rang in they offered me 300mins/unlimited texts and 500mb for £5/month to keep the contract for a further 2 years.0 -
I got my pac about 6 weeks ago and was charged for a one month period from the date of the request as the notice period. Pac was used after 2 weeks.0
