Samsung mobile dead after unlock

Help!! i took my Samsung C3300 to be unlocked at a local shop on Saturday and they've killed my phone! now when it is turned on it just flashes up a black screen with the name of the phone then flashes off again, repeatedly. The guy said he had never had this happen with this phone before and said something about needing to download new software, but the cable for that was broken so could i bring it back today (monday). when i returned they still didn't have the cable, but i'm not sure if i want them to install new software anyway. The guy said he didn't know why it had happened and said the phone had been completely wiped. i queried the quality of downloading a new programme and he said it would be better that the original from my provider as it would be direct from Samsung....is this right?? the phone is only 2 mths old, or should i just ask for compensation for a new phone?

I'd give them a go re-loading your software. If you have the cable you could probably do it yourself.

Its very easy to do this when unlocking a Samsung if you don't know what you are doing. Its also possible to overwrite the IMEI which means the handset will be rejected by all networks (eventually).

What I would do is give them the opportunity to correct their mistake, when you collect the handset tell them you are not accepting that it has been repaired until you have tested it for a few days. If they have messed up the IMEI you will find that the phone will stop working for calls and texts at some point in the next two to three days. (depending on network).

If this is the case then the unlocking shop should replace the handset, or you can return it to Samsung for a chargeable repair. Do NOT allow them to 'fix' the IMEI as the process is illegal. (Unless they are an authorised Samsung repair centre)

As above, the older unlock on newer Samsungs could change the IMEI to all zero's. This will cause it to be unusable on all networks as an IMEI of 000... is invalid.
