wrong answer to security question

Hi all I phoned the child tax credits today to ask about a hefty drop in my payments. I gave my NI number, dob address and where I have money paid into, then I was asked where I went on my first holiday as a security question. I said the wrong location(couldn't remeber at the time) Crazy I no, shame i didn't get to phone my mom!! Anyway the rude bloke on the phone told me I would have to go to the tax office and prove my identity. He said I would get a call in two days to arrange a time for my interview at my LOCAL tax office as I had got the security quesion wrong. He refused to ask another question, despite my stating I work full time and have a disabld child and could do without the inconvenience of having to go into the city centre and pay a fortune in parking. He kndly told me it was only 6.2 miles away, charming!!! So now I wait to hear from them!! It seem ludicrous when millions is outstanding in taxes to this goverment that I have to go through this!!! My own bank would have just asked another question!!! Has anyone been through this before??

Sorry, but you forget your secuirty number and you blame him...................
He's doing his job missus, he's carrying out a secuirty check, you didnt pass it.
Take the consequences.
Or ring them tomorrow with the correct answers to their secuirty questions.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
What a joke!!! The bottom line is THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO CLAIM!!! they will try anything to stop your claim. My sister's friend works in a job center in a big uk city and is always told my people above to " TRY AND STOP 2/3 CLAIMS A WEEK ANYWAY POSS" They throw paperwork in the bin anything to stop people claiming!!! If i was you i would go to your local tax office and sort it out and then get some answers on why your payments have dropped..
What an absolute load of codswallop and nonsense.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

the fact is you would of set that password up on a previous call and told you MUST remember that password answer the next time you call, if you fail the password and there are no further questions to ask you in the list then the system locks the advisor out of the system and it will stay locked until you confirm your identity in person. Would you rather they were lax with security and let anyone access you personal info? you wouldnt expect the atm machine to let you off because you forgot your pin number so why is your tax credits with all the information they have on you less important security wise? you should be happy they are protecting your identity, wasnt long ago people were outraged at HMRC's poor handling of personal info when the discs were lost, now they have stepped up security and people are complaining.
My advice to anyone ringing tax credits is to actually listen to what the advisor is saying to you during the security process, if you dont listen you wont hear then specifically say to you that they are going to set up 2 passwords with you that you WILL NEED TO REMEMBER NEXT TIME AND EVERYTIME YOU CALL. People dont bother to remember or listen and then they moan when they have failed security!0 -

I personally work in a jobcentre (not my sister's friend's cousin's auntie, mind) and that ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NEVER happens, do not believe that poster.0 -
OK fair enough But she has and still throws away paperwork in the bin so do her workmates aswell.. Like her manager said TRY AND STOP 2/3 PEOPLE CLAIMING A WEEK..
But even that doesnt stop people from claiming, all that isdoing is causing people misery and getting people further and further into debt whilst trying to feed their kids, because they will be waiting for their money to come through and when it doesnt well, you can imagine, so they have to go through the stress of claiming again and if that is really what they are doing then they should be ashamed of them selves.
I'm a great believer in Karma, what goes around comes around,

I have passwords for every phone and internet facility. I haven't phoned the tax office for years and donot write passwords etc down. It threw me when he asked me my first holiday, it was the last question I expected. He asked me loads of other questions only I would know NI number, how much and how do I get paid ctc and into what bank, my dob, address and home phone number yet would not ask another security question or allow me to change my answer.
I have to take mt child to hospital in the city centre tomorrow and would like to get this over, can you just turn up at the tax office with the ID? Doing it tomorrow would save me wasting my annual leave when I have a disabled child!!0 -

The same thing happen to me the other day, but the bloke I spoke to was very nice about it and ask me to take my time no rush. I was able to figure out the answer in the end and I was able to preceed with my query!0 -
I'm sure it was very frustrating for you and a pain to be sent into town, but surely this is better than them being lax with it so that someone else might be able to get access to your information?0
