notice period at end of mobile contract

I just tried to give notice to end a mobile contract on the day it is due to expire, with 40 days notice. But have been told that I need to phone 30 days before or I will incur charges! I was told most mobile companies operate in this way.

Is this right? Has anyone else experienced this? The contact is with 3.

I think they were talking rubbish. Normally the T&C say "at least one month's notice"*.

If you want to keep (port) your number you really cannot do this earlier because the PAC lasts only 30 days.

Usually either 30 days or one month.

You need to be specific when dealing with what I presume is an overseas call centre.

You can't give 30 days notice now as you have 40 days to go. OK, we both know that. That isn't what you intended, but sometimes things get misinterpreted.

However, if you tell them that you want to give notice for a date 40 days in the future - for example you may be oiut the country in 10 days' time - they have no grounds for refusal. Double check t&c section 10

You can end the agreement if your Package does not contain a Minimum Term, or if you want to end the agreement at the end of your
Minimum Term or any time after your Minimum Term has expired, provided you give notice to Three Customer Services at least 30 days before the date you want to end the agreement.
(A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.).

It's all there if you take the time and trouble to look,

But if you want the PAC code, you need to wait 10 days.
  • Thank you - I was trying to explain but as you say it must have been misinterpreted, I will try again!
