SKY: 31 days to remove a package?

We took one of the reduced Sky Movies and Sports deals over Christmas and now want to get rid of it.

They have now told me that it takes 31 days to remove a package.

I told them that they were able to do it instantly last year and was told the policy was changed last June.

This hardly seams fair considering I can add a package instantly.

Anyone else encountered this and is there any way out of it?

Cancelling Direct Debit will not work as we will still be billed for services.

Yes this change has made it slightly more inconvenient in cancelling buts its something to do with the billing system or something like that.

As mentioned, this changed a few months back.

Notification was sent with one of my Sky mags months ago, although I'm not sure how those who don't get the magazine were informed.

It was changed because sky wanted a reduction in call volumes coming through to the call centers it means you can phone in put on what ever package and then put your 31 day notice all in the same call

More like they want to make it more difficult to cancel services!

    Not really

Let put it this way you call up and order movies you just want it to watch i dunno hot tub time machine or whatever and dont want it after that.

you get a choice you order it and are told you have to have it for a month before you you can cancel then after a month you can cancel it instantly this means you have to call back and this means sky wil probz get another 2-3 days out of money out of you unless you call back exactly 31 days later which in most cases is going out of the way to do it. This is how the old system worked.

The new system means you can call in buy your movies then cancel instantly so after the 31 days it is cancelled and you dont have to call back.

I understand if this isnt the scenario then yeah 31 days is inconvienent but at the end of the day most places are 31 days notice to cancel/downgrade im pretty sure virgin is the same but dont quote me on that.

And yeah it doesnt really make it harder to cancel it just gives you the option of adding it on for month and dealing with it all in one call. which at the end of the day will actually save you more cash (ie making 2 calls rather than 1) in the long run.

yeah this is correct policy now, I'm currently working out when the end of the football season is so I can phone 30 days or so before the end to cancel, then low and behold when fitba season finishes I don't have sports for the 6/8 weeks of the summer when there's no football on.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
