Putting your life on hold...

And you have a job until your employer decides to sack you. Is it better being unemployed?

I have unemployment insurance to manage that situation. As far as I know, there is no such insurance against errant LLs.

You are judging everybody who rents from your own perspective. It is extremely blinkered to assume the advantages (as you see them) are the same for all renters. They are not.

Your last two sentences are very telling I think. You speak of 'reacting to things' (rather than 'controlling them), 'what happens in your life happens' (rathert than you actually making things happen and choosing them) - this is very much the difference between a happy renter - one who does not mind relinquishing control of their home to a LL - and the unhappy one - who likes to be completely in charge of their own living arrangements.

I'm not judging anyone. All I am saying is that renting is not putting your life on hold. That is the sum total of my argument. The advantages are pretty much all the same for renters, the disadvantages may be different though. You are the one painting renting black because of bad experiences.

You have, again, read my post selectively and picked out the word "react" as the defining word of my entire post. What I said was that circumstances out of your control exist (in all but the most scientific situations) and you can only react to circumstances out of your control. If I must illuminate the obvious for you, one might take the subtext that everything else is under your control.

My advice is choose your landlord better. If I sought permission from my landlord to redecorate, I'm pretty sure he'd allow it, in fact, he'd probably pay.

Of course there are some unhappy renters, but their lives are not on hold.

Uh? Unemployment insurance is going to find you a job just as "errant landlord insurance" won't find you another home. Nice strawman. Although if I wanted to I'm sure I could negotiate an insurance to do just that. Specialist insurers will insure most situations, the question is will the premiums be affordable?

It is you, who cannot see their choice to buy as valid.

Quote me where I have said any such thing.

It is an individual choice, and seeking to say there are universal advantages and disadvantages to buying and renting is a bit like saying there are universal advantages and disadvantages to apples and oranges. Renting suits some people, buying suits others. Our reasons for doing each are manifold and personal.

I'm glad you finally agree with me. It's taken you a lot of tail-chasing to get here.

(I don't get your waffling about apples and oranges but I'll assume the art of metaphor escapes you.)

  • Gosh, just got back from a trip out with my kids enjoying Bank Holiday Friday to an absolute tirade from Orpheo! LOL, your posts make it clear you have a massive bee in your bonnet about renting/buying. I suggest you look a little closer to home to see where the reasons for your frustration with others' inability to agree with your point of view lie.

As somebody who regularly teaches the art of the metaphor, I suggest you take a look at Hamlet and the phrase 'the lady doth protest too much, methinks'!

A tirade? Quit with the drama. Oh, how you do keep coming back for more!

Tell me, what's my point of view? Prove that you can read. Without irrelevantly quoting Shakespeare, preferably.

Is this meant to lend you credibility? Your credibility is mortgaged to the hilt, it's good job interest rates are low.

LOL - how you do like to personalise a 'discussion' ans make it an argument. Won't lower myself to insulting you back - off to enjoy some Pimms...that would be in MY garden of course!
