To pick up on this, has anyone without a shop ever found settings that allow a seller to send automatic 'out of office' replies. If so please let me have a link as it would suit me to be able to do that.
I'm pretty sure you can't do it without a shop.

That's a shame, it would be useful.

    Sending out of office replies

If you're going on holiday or not planning to check your email for a while, use the out of office reply to notify other members who try to contact you. When you create an out-of-office reply, any email you receive will be replied to with the message you create.

To turn on your out of office reply:
    • Click the Messages tab in My eBay
    • Click the Change settings link on the top right side of the page
    • In the Out of office email response section, select Turn my out of office response on
    • Select a Start date and End date
    • Enter a message to send to your customers while you're away
    • Click the Apply button
When the out of office reply is on, you'll see an alert every time you visit your Messages inbox. The alert is at the top of your inbox and reads: Your out of office reply is currently on. To turn this off, change your settings.

It works without a shop, I tested it with an ID that does not have a shop!
    Great news.

Someone has asked me about holiday settings and I thought I would bump this thread as on this 2nd page it explains how to set up automatic messages on ebay for holidays.
