possible move from talktalk to pusnet

Options
my parents are with talktalk out of contract (full llu , phone and broadband ) and thinking of moving both to Plusnet, got a good offer via email

Could they keep their telephone number ?
is there any termination fees with talktalk?
Would i need to obtain a mac code from talktalk?
would they need a new line?

If the line is LLU'd by TT then you can only go back to BT free on a return to donor, this requires a 12m line rental contract. I don't think you can transfer your line rental direct to Plusnet. You could still take your broadband with Plusnet though.
TT will not charge any fee as long as you are out of minimum term contract.

Hi. I've just moved from TalkTalk LLU'd to Plusnet and did not have to go back to BT. Did not have to get a mac code either. Just signed up to Plusnet and they did all the necessary like cancelling TalkTalk etc. I believe Plusnet use the BT line from the local exchange anyway. Did have a few problems at the changeover, 5 days without phone and 10 days without BB but Plusnet kept me informed and had to place orders with BT Openreach to sort things out at the local exchange. The engineers had to sort out some software to get the phone working and the engineers had to do a pair tie modification at the exchange to get the BB working.
I now have a clear phone line and stable broadband connection and speed is slightly better than TalkTalk so I am now a happy bunny

There does seem to be an 'urban myth' that if you are a full LLU phone & broadband then you can only return to donor (BT) for 12 months before shopping around for another provider, this isnt the case as your example proves, but many service providers seem to be mis-informed or cannot be ar*ed to do anything other than the 'standard' migrate from BT..BTW Plusnets telephony is resold BT so although you didnt go back to BT directl you are connected to a BT wholesale linecard (giving you dialtone) and your calls go over BT network, but the bill comes from Plusnet

the reason for this is that Plusnet are a 100% division of the BT Group

You will only need to get a mac code which I think lasts for 30 days after receiving it.

You won't have to pay any money to talktalk if you have finished your 12 or 18 month contract.

    Hope this helps.

I switched from StalkStalk to Plusnet earlier this year (just broadband) when my small (and brilliant) ISP was taken over by them and things went downhill rapidly. Only two points to note for me:

    1. I had to chase up the MAC code with StalkStalk, as my request 'hadn't been processed' withint he required timeframe. They did give it to me straight away on my second call, but I shouldn't have had to call again.

    2. If you do switch, make sure you cancel the StalkStalk DD after the final months payment has been taken. I foolishly expected that being a responsible big buiness they would have protocols in place to ensure they stop taking money for any services they were no longer providing, but apparantly not... Just cancelled the DD myself, but no idea if I'll get the cash back

Other that that, no problems, Plusnet have been good so far, and broadband speeds have definitely improved too. Make sure you check out their traffic management policy and ensure it's liveable with (I've had no trouble, but I don't do much downloading), as it won't suit some people, but at least they actually publish it openly!
