Can someone please tell me if 'neeps' are turnips or swedes?

It sounds like it should be turnips but I am getting mixed messages from various sources!
Many thanks in advance!

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

So I thought, but have checked about on various sites, they are saying swedes or 'yellow turnips' (which looks exactly like a swede to me) or 'rootabaga' !!!?!!? And that pic looks more like a swede than anything!
Oh I am confused.... doesn't take much!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
I think "rootabaga" is Mercan-speak for swede...

Don't forget to add ground pepper to the mashed swede. Makes all the difference. Yum."Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Its swede that you want, the confusion arising because in Scotland they refer to swedes as turnips. There was a long thread about this recently.0

This is what I call a turnip [IMG][/img]

and this is a swede
For Haggis Neeps and Tatties you need the top one with the yellow flesh. A little whisky poured over the Haggis is a nice welcome addition to the meal tooWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
Swede. The one with the purple body and orange flesh.
Not turnip, which is white.0 -
