I've always struggled with this, as where I grow my pots, I can't grow any onion family, otherwise leeks would be the obvious choice. Courgettes I've done before, but I wouldn't have thought there was time for squashes.
First spuds go in 1st week of March, and out first week of June.
My squashes will be in 12" pots and just the right time to put them in without root disturbance and they're ready to go.
I live in south east london, cover the soil to warm it beginning of February. On the very odd year when we get snow/frost after March I just chuck a fleece on it.
Last 2 years is the first snow I've seen in my bit for nearly 10 years, and whilst I get the odd bit of frost up to end of March, it's never a hard ground frost.
I do grow them in the ground, not in tubs. Tried tubs last year as I see it mentioned everywhere and TBH I wasn't impressed.
Bigger yield in the ground and a darn site less hassle, where ever I put the bag/pots they were always in the way!0 -
Thats a good idea, Squashes in after the new potatoes. I dont usually dig all the new potatoes up at once though, i usually just dig a plant up as and when i want to use them. Do other people dig them up all in one go and store them?0

I`ll be putting squashes in after the 1st earlies and courgettes after the 2nd earlies, both are flourishing in 12" pots now. Salad things or maybe green manure phacelia after maincrop0
