Have been given a 2kg bag of carrots which need using up, was thinking of carrot & coriander soup, but can't face peeling them.
Do they need to be peeled, or would a quick wash suffice for soup?

I would as I have read that if any pesticide has been used in the soil it tends to be in the skin, so I always peel although I don't actually know for a fact that its dangerous..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

No, just a quick scrub with a nail brush or something like, they'll be ok.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Yes, all the pesticides gather just under the skin in carrots so it's best to peel them. Carrots get sprayed more than any other vegetable crop and retain a higher proportion of what they're sprayed with, apparently. Even if you think you can cope with this it's recommended that you don't give unpeeled carrots to babies and small children regularly, unless they're grown organically.Val.0

Absolutely not, life's too short to peel a carrot
. Or a parsnip or potato, unless it's for mash. And I can't believe there are people who actually peel mushrooms!

I normally do but when I'm doing it I always wonder if there is much point. As long as you give them a proper wash I can't see any problem with it, especially as you say if they are going into soupCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011
