Phoning home

We are going on holiday to Canada. We have Tesco mobile, £0.89 per minute to phone home. We shall use Skype on my laptop where we can get free WiFi connection.

Can anyone suggest a better alternative? Maybe a Canadian SIM card? :money:

Buy a local sim and ask your family to call you back without picking up the handset.
Rates for calling Canada mobiles from UK landline start from 0p/m. Loads of providers offer 0.5p/min. Most have geographical access numbers for calling from UK mobiles.

Unless things have changed in the past couple of years, sims aren't common to just buy in Canada or USA. In fact, pay as you go mobiles are (or were) pretty much non-existent. My husband is Canadian and my sister lives in California so I have a little inside knowledge. You might be better of buying a calling card, which is what my father-in-law uses to call us from his cell phone.
My information might be out of date now but I know recently my sister had to get my niece a phone on contract as PAYG phones weren't available. I hope for your sake I'm proved wrong.
