RBS telephone banking is rubbish, they never can tell you anything.

That's because their job is to do transfers, debit card problems etc. They are not tasked with dealing with personal borrowing.
    Best Regards

Reducing overdrafts work very well.... reducing by a manageable amount every month - say £50 (depending on the balance of the overdraft)..

    Yes we both work.

Called the bank they can't explain what happeend so are reinstating it but will take 48 hours, called my parents and they've put £500 in and then I'll transfer it back across to them at the end of the week.

Glad it's sorted but was annoying and glad caught it at home rather than out after a meal or shoppng or a fuel stop!

The plan is for it to be temporary, and next month I think I'll be able to drop it down, althoguh after this am tempted to jsut keep it and not use it.

Am trying to open a Nationwide Flex account as well at the moment and plan will be transfer £700 from RBS to Nationwide every month and use RBS for bills and all DDs and SOs, then the Nationwide will be the one we have for general spending, and we've requested no overdraft on the Nationwide one. Also applied for the Nationwide Credit card to do a balance transfer.

But because we've recently moved it's caused a hassle with the electorol role, we've registered and had the letter confirming but don't think it's being picked up by the banks, yet, very frustrating!!

But at least our overdraft is sorted!
    Hell yeah!!

Dont hold your breath. Of course there is some indication as to why the overdraft was removed. Also why do they need 48 hours to reinstate it.

With my bank I can apply for a loan online and if agreed funds can be transferred to my bank account straight away and yet your bank is requiring 48 hours to put the overdraft back in place.

I do hope I am wrong but as i said dont hold your breath.

If you apply for an overdraft online it says at least 48 hours as well but is normally done by the end of the day on next morning. I think they say it to just cover their backs.

It can take upto 48 hours to reinstate an overdraft as once its been put back on the account the system needs to update to allow the customer to see the overdraft again. They 48 hours as a max time allowing for amendments to make place over a weekend where the system does not update. Plus loans and overdrafts are processed in different ways hence the time difference.
