Story and S-F are reselling the same products, so in what way is a rebadged version of exactly the same product better? Especially when the tariffs are higher?abngrl1 wrote:Specially the text and talk. Thought that could utilise some of the spare easymobile credit specially if it can be used from a landline via a pin as they claim on their site.
Also think about a couple of VoIP companies like Voipcheap and Voipbuster. They have text top-up as well and even if you don't want to use the client program on your PC VB has a callthrough number with free calls to quite a few countries - 60 days free calls for £5 top-up, which gets €4.50 of credit - not pin-based though; you register your caller ID, just as you would for a 18185 account0 -
Yes it appears the credit only lasts 30days. I called storytelecom and they re-instated mine, I can't see on their website where it mentions 30 days for text & talk. Think the 30 days start from when you first use the credit not from when you top-up but not sure.0

SF's simplytext2talk.com & cheapestchat.com have NO expiry dates/credit on those products!!! cheapestchat.com is far cheaper than the story products....so altho products may be similar, the rates are very different

cheapestchat does not appear to have a text top-up method so is an irrelevant reply to the OP question, particularly as the 090 numbers will quite likely be as blocked by easyM as two others I tried.
But if 090 can be called, can the account then be used with a PIN from a different number than that used to charge credit, as if not there is even less point.
The other product's tariffs are over 50% higher than the Story one, while many of the Voipbuster tariffs are free.
Until easyM actually closes, some more expensive destinations can be reached actually cheaper either by dialling 07744 from easyMobile itself, or by diverting the easyM number to 07744s from Yourcallworld or PlanetTalkFree, then calling it from your other contract mobile0 -
ch.chat tells you on website to call the 0907 £1.50 number from a landlie & u can then folow prompts to use/transfer the full crdit to any mobile or landline of yr choice -- and the rates are good0

Read the OP
This is completely irrelevant to how someone can use up their spare easyMobile credit by making p-sms top-ups or other method.
[Why must you harp on and on about the products of only one company? (well over half of your posts). People can still use the MSE Callchecker and compare for themselves - usually mid-table]
1. easyMobile may be barred against making 090 calls unless the subscriber enables it - it certainly is on some such numbers
2. if it isn't, then there is no guarantee that the 090 tariff from the mobile will be the same
3. you are talking about establishing a credit by charging from a landline, then possibly moving that to a landline or a mobile
4. again - the OP wants to use up the redundant credit from the mobile, not add charges to a landline
____
An efficient way to use the easy credit is to put it on to a Finarea/Betamax VoIP account, as I mentioned.
Even though not all the p-sms charge arrives in the account ** (other operators like the above just have higher call charges to allow for this), a £5 charge converts into €4.50 credit, which is enough to call UK mobiles for 75 minutes with Voipcheap at 6c - that's a conversion profit factor of two and a quarter times from 33.3 min. for £5, and I wish I'd thought of it way back ...
The credit does not expire until all spent, and for 90 days per top-up calls to 30 or 40 destinations are free, subject to fair use of 300 minutes a week (which is rather cheaper than cheapestchat).
The client program is easy to download to the PC and use, though more advanced VoIP users may have hardware as well, or even set up remote callback methods.
Most of the Finarea companies are used like this, but the Voipbuster one also has a London callthrough access number that works exactly the same as 18185 or 1899 - it identifies the caller ID pre-registered on the account, either landline or mobile and then you dial the destination. But several countries have a zero tariff, and there are no connection charges either, so using a mobile to the cheapest destinations will only be the cost of the mobile call itself; or an off-peak call from a BT landline would be a few pence. For VB, the same €4.50 credit from the £5 only gives 60 days to the free destiantions, but even after that they are only 1c per minute.
I've put 3 credits on VC and one on VB, and I'm just deciding whether to get either Story or a similar deal or put more on the others.
An interesting thing with Story is that once you have an account 10 other numbers can be referred (with friend's permission) and they get a £1 free credit each as well. I asked if they got a PIN too or the credit had to be used from the same phone ID; PIN he said, so that's £15 credit for £5 that hardly cost anything from easyMobile in the first place ... (and if any of them join they can refer 10 more ...)
So the 30 day life question is interesting - dormant until first use, or active on issue? - I intend to ask them that and a couple more questions that I didn't last time
___
** - this is not a rip-off (well. not by them anyway) - apparently 60% is about par for the proportion of a premium rate sms charge gets to the supplier - the rest going to the providers and the network.0 -
thanks for all the info0

Hi everybody,
I am a frequent user of Story services, especially Text&Talk, and I am really happy about it.
Rates are, as far as I know, really cheap. Plus, this service is really convenient as I can topup whenever I need and call direcly from my mobile without a pin.
My friend use Story Mobile, and she enjoys free international calls from her mobile. :-)
