When can I upgrade my phone?

I have been an o2 customer for 6 years on the same contract. I pay my bills through the carphone warehouse since I got my first phone. In February 2010 I upgraded my phone on to a 24 month contract. When I asked the adviser in the shop when I could upgrade on a 24 month contract he said after 18 months. I called the carphone warehouse today just to confirm what date I can upgrade out of curiosity and they said March 2012. I asked him if there was any possibility of me upgrading early and he just said no.

I found this a little odd as I have always been allowed to upgrade a couple of months early every time I have. Does this sound right????

I really want to upgrade as the phone I have now isn't working very well anymore and keeps freezing and turning itself off.

Anyone got any idea what the upgrade policy is with Carphone warehouse?

With O2 it's one month early, or 3-6 months if you spend silly money (talking £80+ pounds)
